Noah's Ark found in Turkey
THE SUN ^ | TODAY | STAFF REPORTER

The remains of Noah's Ark have been discovered 13,000ft up a Turkish mountain, it has been claimed.

A group of Chinese and Turkish evangelical explorers say they have found wooden remains on Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey.

They claim carbon dating proves the relics are 4,800 years old — around the same time the ark was said to be afloat.

Yeung Wing-Cheung, from the Noah's Ark Ministries International research team, said: "It's not 100 per cent that it is Noah's Ark, but we think it is 99.9 per cent that this is it."

He said the structure contained several compartments, some with wooden beams, that they believe were used to house animals.

The group of evangelical archaeologists ruled out an established human settlement on the grounds none have ever been found above 11,000ft in the vicinity, Yeung said.

Local Turkish officials will ask the central government in Ankara to apply for UNESCO World Heritage status so the site can be protected while a major archaeological dig is conducted.

The biblical story says that God decided to flood the Earth after seeing how corrupt it was.

He then told Noah to build an ark and fill it with two of every animal species.

After the flood waters receded, the Bible says, the ark came to rest on a mountain.

Many believe that Mount Ararat, the highest point in the region, is where the ark and her inhabitants ran aground.

Well.., not saying that it’s a valid claim that it’s been found, but it’s something interesting — as we know that there was a world-wide flood and there was a ark that Noah built and it did come to rest upon some mountains over there. It may still be around and then again, it may not. I don’t know if it still is in one piece and recognizable.

It would certainly be very interesting if we did finally find it. Aside from finding it, we already have the sure Word of God about the World-wide flood, the reasons for it and that we all come from just three families (three couples, merely six people) to restart the entire human race ... :-)

WOuldn’t they have told their kids “oh yeah there was billions of people and we were the only ones who survived because we got on that BIG boat..and oh the stories we could tell...oh the smell...you gotta go see it”.

To be fair, there has been much talk the last decade or so that they believed they had found it but an uncooperative Turkish government was clogging up the works. I’m not saying this is or is not the ark, but this is apparently the first time they’ve been able to go actually check this out. We’ll see if anything other than big fat claims comes of it.

“What’s a cubit?”
“One of the funniest comedy albums of all time.”

Actually a cubit is a unit of measure. It’s okay to say that you don’t know the right answer. ;)

It think it is along the lines of “extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.” Of course, assuming it is true, part of that evidence would be the elevation.

The Noah story is the Jewish version of the Akkadian (per-Summerian) Gilgamesh flood story. Much more likely that the flood was experienced in the Persian Gulf when rising seas broke open the Strait of Hormuz. This is also the site of Eden. Can’t see how the ark got to Mount Ararat. Methinks there is something up there, but what it is is beyond me.

C14 (Carbon-14) dating is based on a ratio of C-14 to C-12, a ration that remains in stasis in living things but begins to decline at the death of the organism. Theoretically, so much isotopic decay occurs in half-life steps that at about 50,000 years there is nothing left of the original C-14. Therefore, C-14 should work great for near-term events 5000-10,000 years ago, but become dramatically less accurate going further back, and utterly useless after 50K years.
