“He is right in that there will be Constitutional arguments only in the sense that the national borders are a federal matter, not state.”

The AZ border with Mexico is indeed a national border, but it is also a state border... It’s not unprecedented for states to police their borders. Don’t 18 wheelers have to pull over often when you cross state lines?

Imagine this...five thousand leftists arrive in Arizona over the weekend and every time a cop asks who they are...the response is “Juan Lopez”...with no ID on them. In fact, folks could walk up to the cops and insist they are illegal...and crush the state’s law enforcement system easily.

Well, then they'll probably all have to head down to the police station and be turned over to ICE. At that point, it's up to them to prove they are US citizens or they get deported. That might be fun to watch! With good luck, a few dozen of these leftists would not be able to locate their birth certificate or SSN card and get deported to Guadalajara.

This makes perfect sense when you factor in Ramos and Compean, very heavy drug money, and heavily paid Mexican citizen lawyers, under the Bush DOJ.

Rubio is the Spanish word for “blond.” Therefore, we have a new name for him or whatever.

Won't be arrested unless they have committed a crime. That is the basis for this law, to catch the worst of the illegals. The murderers. The druggies. The job-crushers. Time for those illegals to leave. Now.

One wonders if, during the previous administration, Dubya might have had better judgment on illegal aliens matters; but perhaps deferred to DCOS Rove on this based on political calculations.

No knowledge, just "iffing".

I subscribe to WSJ and their editorials always favor so called immigration reform. The Rinos paid for that stance in 2008. They will do so this year and 2012.

“Seriously, if a cop asked you today to prove you’re a citizen, what document would you show to convince him?”

The cop’s going to run your license number before he gets out of his car. He’s going to know your name, your age, any previous violations, your home address, if you have a concealed carry permit, any outstanding warrants, if you are insured etc.

They’re going to do it on the basis of reasonable suspicion that these people are here illegally, like they’re driving a car with a Mexican license plate or they can’t speak English or they don’t have a drivers license.”

Um, no. How about a groups of men loitering in the morning in public locations known for ILLEGAL ALIENS soliciting work cheaper than our own citizens?

How about boracho in public and loitering?

Sorry, that was his best quote and I meant to agree.

These are modern police forces that respect the rights of people in their communities,” Rove said. “They’re going to do it on the basis of reasonable suspicion that these people are here illegally, like they’re driving a car with a Mexican license plate or they can’t speak English or they don’t have a drivers license.”
