Hello, The Gulf Oil Spill Is Obama's Katrina

It's been argued that Hurricane Katrina was one of George W. Bush's biggest organizational failures, for the tragedy was allowed to fester on for way too long before his much-vaunted homeland security apparatus sprang into action.

Will the oil spill in the gulf -- which some suspect could be worse than Exxon Valdez -- be the equivalent for Barack Obama?

Today the story got elevated to national emergency level, but the explosion on the rig happened eight days ago!

Will numerous investigations will no doubt be launched into the companies behind the rig (BP, Transocean), will anyone ask what the DHS and The White House have been doing for 8 days, while an ecological disaster was unfolding in such a sensitive region?

We're guessing that unlike Bush, Obama will largely get a pass. Katrina played into a narrative of Bush ignoring the plight of the poor and African-Americans. Nobody is suggesting that Obama is bad on the environment. Also, just generally, an ecological disaster won't elicit the same kind of emotional response as a human tragedy (for good reason).

I agree. I wonder if it was deliberate for that purpose.

Someway, somehow, they´ll blame this one on Bush.

It is only reported as boy king's Katrina here and maybe on FoxNews - the rest of the state run lame stream media will never ever say anything about it from the Administration negligence point of view. NEVER EVER.

Mr Obama, why did you dither for a week before the federal government sent in help?
Now the entire Louisiana fishing industry will be lost. Shameful.
Obama lied and fish died.

Anyone else find these comparisons tedious?

IMO it serves 0bama’s agenda spectacularly. Offshore drilling is hereby set back 5 years. Because BP didn’t or wouldn’t put one of those shutoff deals (cost = appx $500K = ONE.POINT.TWO frickin’ days of output @ 5000 bbl/day @ $85/bbl) and why one *wouldn’t* put such a device in such a hurricane-prone area is flat out brain dead. OK, *here’s* at last an example of congressites being “smarter” than oil co execs. Or at least the BP a**hat who made this decision.

We're guessing that unlike Bush, Obama will largely get a pass.

And that's because Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana all have Republican governors.

Bush wasn't slow to react with Katrina because Blanco was a Democrat. In fact, Blanco was slow to bring in Bush because he was a Republican and she was afraid of making him look good. She had to confer with Howard Dean before making any decisions regarding Katrina response.

Obama is so political as a president that he is willing to insert himself in a mine disaster funeral in West Virgina because they have a Democrat governor, but there's no talk of Obama appearing at a funeral for the missing 11 oil platform workers because the Gulf states are Republican.

It's that simple.

"One big exception- no one died in the oil spill."

Didn't eleven people die in the explosion that caused the leak/spill?

Oh, that’s right. Any death is a tragedy, but this won’t kill anywhere as many people as Katrina did.

Yeah, what about those 11 people? This was initially reported as a horrible accident and loss of human life. Now even the Times-Picayune is painting it as an environmental disaster and a loss of livelihood for fishermen.

No, this will not be Obama’s Katrina. The MSM deliberately made Katrina a Bush failure, which it was not. And the MSM will absolutely not in any way criticize Obama on and on for any aspect of this tragedy. Heck, if he does look responsible for some negative outcome, the MSM will spend as much time as necessary to absolve him of all responsibility.

I heard that the spill so far was 200,000 gallons and that 100,000 of dispersant have been applied. Someone needs to ascertain the long term toxicity of the dispersant.

You Photoshoppers really make me smile sometimes. I almost missed the etch-a-sketch.

God help us. This plays right into 0bama’s plan.

Way to go Jan the Man! She has everything under control except it is hard to use Homeland Security resources to chase around and demonize Obama’s political opponets as the new “terrorists” and take care of real problems. Obama hates the Choclate city.

I was thinking the exact thing this morning—how if Bush were president the airwaves would be filled with indignant voices taking Bush to task for waiting 8 days to mobilize the feds.
