Two homosexual activists posed proudly in front of cameras as the first same-sex parents in Britain to jointly sign a birth certificate, reports Christian Concern for our Nation.
Natalie Woods, 38, gave birth to Lily May Betty Woods in Brighton earlier this month through the use of sperm given by a registered donor. Her lesbian partner, Elizabeth Knowles, 47, is named on the certificate instead of the biological father.
The couple were able to take advantage of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008 which came into effect at the beginning of this month. The Act entitles people in same-sex relationships to both be treated as equal parents of a child. Until the law changed, homosexual couples could not put both of their names on a child conceived by a donor.
Neither of the women are described as mother on the certificate as the words mother and father have been scrapped from some birth certificatesthe practice for the past 170 yearsand the lesbians are listed as Lily May's parents instead.
Miss Woods, who lives with her lesbian partner in Brighton, East Sussex is currently on maternity leave from her job as services manager at the city's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Switchboard, a counselling service.
Stonewall, the homosexual lobby group, welcomed the change in the law and said it was a much needed fairer system for homosexuals.
However, the move has outraged pressure groups, who say a childs birth certificate should accurately reflect their biology and not new political agendas.
Baroness Deech, the chairman of the Bar Standards Board, is an open critic of the rules allowing homosexual couples to sign birth certificates with no mention of the father. She said such a move could undermine the childs right to understand its identity.
There is an issue of principle here, which is the truth, she said last month.
It puts the demands of the adults ahead of the rights of children to know and benefit from both sides of their genetic makeup. This is not a moral issue; it is about disguising true facts, and it is about confusing biological parenthood, legal and social parenthood.
Josephine Quintavalle, from Comment on Reproductive Ethics (CORE), said:
Birth certificates should reflect how a baby is generated. In a culture that is obsessed with genetics, it is strange that when it comes to birth certificates we are prepared to forget all that.
As much as you try to play around with the terminology, the biology reflects what has happened and one day the child will ask about their father.
Andrea Minichiello Williams, Director of CCFON, said: It is extraordinary that an Act of Parliament has allowed the truth to be exchanged for a lie. Every child needs a mother and a father to come into this world and every birth certificate should reflect the childs real parents. This extremely sad state of affairs is taking place at a time when there is an urgent need for greater involvement of fathers in the lives of their children.
A girl needs her dad. So does a boy for that matter.
A woman who thinks she’s a man is not a dad.
Sorry to say.
The UK has become a big joke
You know, I really could care less about what gays do in the privacy of their own bedroom, I leave them alone, they leave me alone...and we’ll do just fine.
But when they start making their imprint on the culture and society in this manner, and try to imply that their way of life is as normal as hetero, that’s where I draw the line.
“The UK has become a big joke”
The UK is a glimpse into our future.
Write it back in in protest.
Anything issue from the left CAN’T “live and let live”,
due to the very goals of these issues.
The goals are to destroy God created institutions and humanity in general.
They MUST be “activist”.
The love that dare not speak it’s name, is now the love that won’t STFU.
no kidding.... the UK has become the poster child for progressive-liberal nonsense. Every time I see a headline that reeks of stupidity... it is always from the UK. Not to mention, have you noticed that when there is a bizarre health story - like a person with some rare disorder, that has bizzare symptoms, it’s also from the UK? I’ve wondered if it is because of lowered standards of healthcare....or bad drinking water... ;-)
Mark Steyn mentioned last week that a 14 year old girl requested new science project partners because all the kids at her table only spoke Urdu and she didn’t.
The teacher immedately called the POLICE and the girl was hauled off to jail and booked like a violent criminal. They sat her in a cell for hours and interrogated her on her racial hatred.
That is what the UK has come to.

And if a child wants or needs legal recourse to find his/her biological father/mother? What then?
Is is fascinating on a certain level to watch people that can’t see past their own front door or even past their own genitalia.
Society in Britain is crumbling more each day as the state supplants family. No doubt the same people who encourage this kind of silliness are the ones complaining about feral youth, knife crime, etc.
They are complicit in this decay but their smug self-regard is rewarded with the state’s indulgence.

Aint that the truth. I had no idea Britain was as degenerate as it is until recently.
A great tagline. If you don't use it, I might.
That is unreal! What’s even more pathetic, the citizens allowed it to get to that level of idiocracy. I visited London back in 1998, and it was the first time I ever saw a muslim female covered from head to toe, where all you could see were 2 eyes ....scared the hell out of me. I suspected then there were going to start having problems with that. Used to like the UK, now sad to say, I see them as careening toward third world standards with old Romanian style government. This from a nation that was once a great empire. sad.
Kid's one up on the current occupant of the WH. At least the kid has a Birth Certificate.
Thank you. Wish I’d said it first.
