White House Declares Halt on New Offshore Drilling
Aol News ^ | 30/4/10 | Doug Simpson, Lauren Frayer

The White House said today it is halting all new offshore drilling in U.S. waters until there's an "adequate review" of a massive 600-mile wide oil slick that has begun to lap up on Louisiana's coast.

The federal government is defending its response to the spill, which began with an April 20 blast on one of British Petroleum's offshore rigs that burned for two days before sinking. Rescuers saved 115 workers but 11 are presumed dead. BP is responsible for the cleanup, and it wasn't until Thursday -- nine days after the explosion -- that the White House declared it "a leak of national significance."

White House senior adviser David Axelrod told ABC's "Good Morning America" today that President Barack Obama has decided that there will be no new domestic offshore drilling until an investigation of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill incident is complete.

"All he has said is that he is not going to continue the moratorium on drilling but ... no additional drilling has been authorized and none will until we find out what happened here and whether there was something unique and preventable here," Axelrod said, defending the administration's policy.

Drilling for oil has always been hazardous, but necessary.
Hold up on the conspiracy theories until we learn a lot more.
For my part..BP seems to be involved in too many incidents where they appear to be taking the cheaper route with less regard for safety. At the same time they are wasting millions on enviromental hype advertising to polish their image.

“Now I’m convinced of it-the spill was deliberate..”

I agree. Once again we are expected to believe that burning oil can destroy a steel structure.

Obama planned and executed this.

An Oil price spike will lead to higher fuel costs which will cause food price to skyrocket. Yet Obama and company will blame ‘greedy’ capitalism for the markets reaction to government interference.

One rig is down, so supply should not be affected in the near term. Unless we’re being gouged.

Its gonna get bad this summer. Here In Michigan there were 4 seperate bills introduced to force energy producers to cut output. (Increase declines is poor code for “cut more”)

House Bill 6069 (Increase mandated state power production declines )
Introduced by Rep. Gary McDowell (D) on April 22, 2010, to revise the mandating that natural gas utilities reduce the amount of energy they provide by .75 percent each year beginning in 2013. The bill would require that beginning in 2015 utilities reduce the amount of gas they provide by 1.5 percent, and 2.0 percent beginning in 2016.

House Bill 6068 (Increase mandated state power production declines )
Introduced by Rep. Joan Bauer (D) on April 22, 2010, to revise the mandating that natural gas utilities reduce the amount of gas they provide by .75 percent each year beginning in 2013. The bill would require that beginning in 2014 utilities reduce the amount of gas they provide by 1.25 percent, and 2.0 percent beginning in 2016

House Bill 6067 (Increase mandated state power production declines )
Introduced by Rep. Lisa Brown (D) on April 22, 2010, to revise the mandating that natural gas utilities reduce the amount of gas they provide by .75 percent each year beginning in 2013. The bill would require that beginning in 2013 utilities reduce the amount of gas they provide by 1.0 percent over the previous year.

House Bill 6063 (Increase mandated state power production declines )
Introduced by Rep. Fred Miller (D) on April 22, 2010, to revise the mandating that electric utilities reduce the amount of energy they provide by 1 percent each year beginning in 2012. The bill would require that beginning in 2013 utilities reduce the amount of power they provide by 1.25 percent over the previous year.

"White House Declares Halt on New Offshore Drilling".

Tell it like it is......

"Obama Declares Halt on New Offshore Drilling".

An edifice cannot declare ANYTHING.

More dictatorship by imperial fiat.

Maybe not deliberate but the lack of response was, IMO. They waited to bring the weight of the U.S. response so that they could say, "Look. Off shore drilling is a disaster. We can't a.low it. Look at what's happening in the Gulf."

They waited till the response would not be effective on purpose.

**Has anyone considered Islamo-fascists ?**

Yes, but they’re 3rd on list.
1. Earth First, but as they haven’t announced as they always do.
2. US Government (White House) created CRISIS again.
3. islamofascists, but they haven’t announced as they usually do!
I’m more inclined to go with #2, as it took FUHRER OBAMA 8 days to say anything about it. REICHSTAG!

The moment I heard oil platform off the coast of Louisiana, I got suspicious. Those platforms withstood the big hurricane in 2005 for one simple reason: you can shut them off at the ocean floor level, so if anything happens to anything higher than that, there is no spill. That’s what they did during Katrina. Now suddenly it’s leaking like a mangled garden hose? Why aren’t they shutting it off at the floor level, then? Then I saw what The One has just decreed, and the pieces fell into place.

But that doesn't make any sense.

With the Obozo regime in charge, I thought the economy was going to come roaring back. Surely this would require more energy.

Unless of course the enviro-wizards have a "plan" to power the whole country with windmills and mayonnaise. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Obviously prices for the consumer will rise but the producers can sell carbon credits for the energy they won’t be producing.
