NEW YORK-- A suicidal college student who carried highly toxic sodium cyanide into a subway tunnel caused a brief terrorism scare early Friday, police said.
Track workers spotted the 20-year-old man -- wearing a hard hat, safety vest and boots -- at about 5:30 a.m. wandering deep inside the tunnel under the East River.
The workers pulled him aboard a train and took him to a lower Manhattan subway station. Police there discovered he was carrying a backpack holding a quart container full of sodium cyanide pellets, five highway flares and two bottles of water.

Milligrams of cyanide are all it takes to kill yourself.
Why dress up in a hard hat, workers clothes, etc?
You’re damned right it was attempted terrorism, and they know it. They just don’t want to panic the public.
When we find out more about this guy we may understand why he did what he did, but given the press’ propensity for being PC we may never hear the rest of the story.
There was a guy who blew himself up with a backpack outside of a packed college football stadium too.
I wonder if he had any "help" from the locals. Nothing like helping a guy to finish his goals early.
In Bombing At OU Stadium There Are More Questions Than Answers

Ten days have passed since a 21-year-old University of Oklahoma engineering student was killed when a bomb he was carrying exploded 100 yards from the stadium where Oklahoma and Kansas State were playing football before a crowd of 84,000 and there are still more questions than answers to exactly What? and Why?
That’s exactly what I’m thinking as well. RE: OU — I’ve got some links on my profile page if someone wants to research that incident more (several round-up threads here, and an archive of all the info. I compiled at my blog — the links for OU are about halfway down my *needs to be updated* page here...).

I saw a name up above on this thread. Does anyone know if it’s been reported in print anywhere?
If someone is a muslim convert, the news articles often use the old name. I’m not saying that is the case here, but there is a pattern.
[Here is a news report that contains the arrested man’s name. It has been excerpted, and this post is also located on the other thread ( http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2504021/posts ) ]
The man who has been arrested in connection with this is named Aaron Fetto. I’ve looked at his profile over on FB, but most of it is private. I’m not seeing anything among his friends there that would indicate ties to Muslims, however, that doesn’t mean that there definitely wasn’t.
I do notice he’s a “fan” of the RNC — however, I also know many of my liberal & some libertarian acquaintances and former classmates are “fans” of that page as well for the purpose of keeping an eye on the “enemy” in their eyes...
Watch for the MSM to seize on that though and try to paint him as a conservative.

NYPD Arrest Man Found in Subway with Sodium Cyanide
By Sean Gardiner and Joel Stonington

Metropolitan Transportation Authority workers riding in the tunnel to pick up garbage spotted Aaron Fetto, 20, dressed in a hardhat, reflective vest and yellow, knee-length boots around 5:30 a.m. walking in the tunnel south of Bowling Green heading toward Brooklyn, said Paul Browne, the New York Police Departments spokesman.

Inside Fettos backpack, detectives found two one-liter bottles of water, five road flares, a lighter and a quart-sized can with a sodium cyanide label.
The Department of Environmental Protection was called in, as were officers from the NYPDs Emergency Services Unit who searched the tracks, but found nothing.
The can was taken to a mobile lab downtown where officers in protective hazardous materials suits opened the can and discovered what they believe were sodium cyanide tablets, Browne said. Sodium cyanide is a highly toxic salt most commonly used as a pesticide. When heated it emits toxic fumes but is not an explosive.

Browne said the police believe his story and have ruled out terrorism, but charges against Fetto are pending.
That’s an unbelievable amount of KCN. Even a drop of that stuff is lethal. I think HCN is even worse.
Oops I mean NaCN
This Pace Oct. 2008 article, “Pace Press - Presidential debate viewing continues”, indicates Aaron Fetto, 20, was a political science major

Mohamed Fetto exists on Facebook. The following link lists “Fetto” accounts with Mohamed listed first, Aaron last.
