If Good Morning America or World News look any different in the coming weeks, it might be because ABC News is employing nearly 400 fewer people.
David Westin, president of ABC News, said this was a difficult time for everybody involved.
Brian Rooney, an ABC reporter in Los Angeles, was let go. Earlier this week, ABC News, a unit of the Walt Disney Company, largely completed one of the most drastic rounds of budget cutbacks at a television news operation in decades, affecting roughly a quarter of the staff. The cutbacks promise to change ABC both on- and off-camera.
For some employees, like the longtime Los Angeles correspondent Brian Rooney, Friday was their last day. Mr. Rooney said his contract expired at exactly the moment when they needed to shed an enormous amount from the payroll. In an e-mail message, he compared it to standing looking straight up when the bomb dropped.

Man, what a terrible tragedy.
It is a tragedy that the other 3/4 of the ABC staff still have jobs.
Maybe if ABC was not such a propaganda machine, we would not have the job-annihillating Obama/democrat Great Depression II. It is such a shame that behavior has consequences.
Can’t hardly wait until the next big round of layoffs
yep. It’s hard to feel bad for people who work for an organ of leftist propaganda losing their jobs.
I have been telling people - cancel cable and sat TV. Stop feeding the beast. Your monthly bill is divided up and it keeps them afloat.
Maybe he can get a gig as anchor in Fargo..then again..he isn’t up on the local stuff. He can try running his own blog now that health care is free.
Hope & Change! Outstanding. I never feel sorry for people whose foolishness is responsible for their own demise.
I can just see all the green shoot good economic news tomorrow morning. It will be interesting to see if the LSM will actually start to report how bad it is, now that their nest has been tainted? Gonna get pretty hard to keep cheerleading when the team is getting sent to the locker room.......
Well it’s good that we’re living in an economic boom so that these journalists will find good jobs right away. :)
Just think, if the media had actually done their job and investigated Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac this whole thing may have been avoided. But no....they played Gottcha Bush for all those years adding to BDS instead of doing their job.
He has a future cleaning up oil spills...
Does this include the cast of “V”?
Yep. Behavior has consequences. These people worked hard to get liberals elected. The rest of us may yet follow. I guess the crocodile didn’t eat them last.
These liberal guys don’t know how to handle money. They start making big bucks and instead of saving and living reasonable they live large and then have nothing.
If we all had his salary for 10 years, we would be set for life..at a smaller scale, but nice.
With cable and internet I almost never watch the three networks
He might be the lucky one. A bunch of their reporters will now be doing their own camera work. lol.
A few months in the real world and they’ll be joining the Tea Party!
What is AMAZING is that you can watch ABC News and STILL hear endless lies about what a blessing Obama and the democrats are for the magnificent economy, filled with unicorns and candy.
This complete deceit is being read off telepromptors by soulless professional paid liars in rooms where 1/4 of all their fellow employees were just fired in the Obama/Democrat Great Depression II.
Hey, how do you like getting kicked in the rear while covering the President’s butt.
No good deed goes unpunished.
Join the rest of us peons now.
Well its good that were living in an economic boom so that these journalists will find good jobs right away. :)
“Knock. Knock. How many people live here.”
True enough. To be a real conservative is to live within your means.
Or at least I’d like to think so...
“Good television news is expensive to do,
And biased news is even more expensive!
But, but ABC kept telling everybody 0bama’s “stimulus’ worked like magic, and created all these millions of wonderful jobs.
Meanwhile, the same David Westin, after the 9/11 attacks:
“The Pentagon as a legitimate target? I actually don't have an opinion on that and it's important I not have an opinion on that as I sit here in my capacity right now.” — David Westin, ABC News President, Oct 23,2001
Too much beer. I seriously see a circus clown in that one.
CBS needs some big cutbacks, starting with the way way overpaid Katie Kourik
oh. my eyes fill with tears . . . NOT!
Plenty of “Shovel Ready” jobs out there folks. The economy is booming again. Right?....Right?
Elections have consequences.
It is indeed sweet irony: The media fanned the flames and CREATED the recession that's now getting their jobs.
“Cant hardly wait until the next big round of layoffs..”
What are they qualified to do? There’s already a surplus of people scraping road kill up from the streets. BUT WAIT...maybe they could volunteer to BE road kill, then other former ABC employees could scrape them up. Hey, a role for not just one but many ABC employees.
“For viewers, the effects will be felt on the individual broadcasts, like World News with Diane Sawyer,
The viewers will feel no effects. They can turn on any channel and get Obambi/Democrat talking points.
Hey, you know, I had another look, and you are right.
It’s as easy as ABC, just start reporting the news instead of being propaganda tools for Obama, Pelosi, and Reid!
We are now, as a work force, becoming much more flexible, said Jon Banner, the executive producer of World News.
We now only need 100 people to walk over to the fax machine and get the Obama/Democrat talking points memo. We’re on the cutting edge. We’d like to assure our viewers that we won’t let this downsizing effect our biased news coverage one iota.
800,000 and counting have dropped cable and satellite - me included.
I had mine shut of in Jan 2009. I get all the programs I watched free online...and most of them on MY schedule and without the long commercials.
so that monthly money is in MY pocket - I have not missed TV at all - well, I get PBS, and locals...so I watch Masterpiece Theatre occasionally and Antiques Roadshow when I remember...but I can also get those both online... Cable/Satellite is dying - and Thank you , G_d.
publik skool teacher?
People do not realize that their $40 to 100 cable bill is divided up each month. ABC/Disney has about 10 channels and probably gets $4 a month. VIAcom/CBS/MTV/Nickelodian probably has 10 channels and gets the same $4. Same thing with CNN/TBS/Etc, GE/NBC/MSNBC/CNBC/Universal etc.
Fox is not the savior. You watch any tv via cable or sa tv and you are keep the libs in power and insuring your own serfdom and it is too damn serious now.
