I am a self employed fabricator, pipefitter- welder, I fabricate/repair cementing equipment and fracturing/stimulation equipment for both Halliburton and Weatherford International, and have for BJ Services. This year marks my 30th year at this. I'm certainly no petroleum engineer, but working on and around the stuff for that long, at little of it rubs off on 'ya☺

Well I suggest a psychological profile before you return offshore. I don't know anyone in the industry who thinks this could have been caused by anything other than nature.

They closed the BOP, displaced the mud with sea water, had a work boat offloading the excess mud, and when they reopened the BOP they took a kick.

And before you ask I'm 4th generation. Dad sold drilling equipment for 40 years, grandfather sold Cameron BOP's before he became a VP of Global Marine. Uncle drilling a well in China right now. Best friend is off West Africa. I grew up reading Smith International Catalogs.

While I didn’t claim to KNOW the cause of the accident, and I base what I said on what I have heard, a fellow worker from a major wireline/fracturing service said today that the people who should know the most about it went down with the rig. His company had two employees on it that got off safely.
I don’t normally give much credit to those who reply to posts with cheap personal jabs, either.

Fine, and I don't depend on welders who speculate about something they know nothing about.

First sentence of article:

“Investigators delving into the possible cause of the massive gulf oil spill are focusing on the role of Houston-based Halliburton Co., the giant energy services company, which was responsible for cementing the drill into place below the water.”

If the writer can’t get the first sentence right, little they offer is useful.

They do NOT “cement the drill into place below the water.”
