Obama Says He's Troubled by Anti-Government Rhetoric
Foxnews ^ | 5/1/2010 | Staff

President Obama said Saturday he's troubled by the angry rhetoric of those who are trying to make the case that government is "inherently bad."

He told graduates at the University of Michigan that people who take that line of attack seem to forget that in a democracy, "government is us."

Obama also said in his commencement speech that members of the class of 2010 should seek out and listen to opposing views on the issues of the day.

His advice: If you're a regular Glenn Beck listener, then check out the Huffington Post sometimes. If you read The New York Times editorial page the morning, then glance every now and then at The Wall Street Journal.

He said that may "make your blood boil," but it's an essential part of being an effective and informed citizen.

Wonder if obama (small o) ever even heard of these quotes?/rhetorical question

"Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God." Thomas Jefferson

"Government is not reason; it is not eloquence. It is force. And force, like fire, is a dangerous servant and a fearful master." George Washington

The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government."

Patrick Henry

“government is us.”

This from the man who said the public must be ignored on the implementation of health care? Who’s now doing it to us on immigration? There has never been a president in our history with less regard for democracy! Ever!!

No, Mr. President, government is SUPPOSED to be us. The reason so many are currently protesting is that, instead of government by the people for the people, you have given us government over the people against the people.

He told graduates at the University of Michigan that people who take that line of attack seem to forget that in a democracy, "government is us." Is that why the government forced socialized healthcare on a country that obviously didn't want it? Is that why the government gave away billions of dollars to various groups/special interests despite the fact that the vast majority of the people were absolutely against it?

0Zero seems to forget that we don't live in a democracy. We live in a republic.

Republic: A political order in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who are entitled to vote for officers and representatives responsible to them.

Would someone please tell the empty suit Obama that patriots are not anti-government but are anti-dictatorship, anti-global government (aka: loss of US sovereignty) and anti-government monopoly over the free market. It’s beginning to look like there is nothing between those huge ears but O.
