HANOI (Nikkei)--National Policy Minister Yoshito Sengoku and Transport Minister Seiji Maehara met with Vietnamese officials here to promote Japanese infrastructure projects, such as the construction of nuclear power plants and high-speed rail systems.

Maehara, left, and Sengoku urged Vietnam to tap Japanese technologies for its nuclear and rail projects.

Talking with Vietnamese Transport Minister Ho Nghia Dung, Maehara expressed Japan's willingness to extend yen loans.

"We'll discuss within the government how much in yen loans we can use," Maehara told Dung while also pointing out that Vietnam may need to be flexible in its plans, such as delaying the rail system's launch.

Maehara also met with Construction Minister Nguyen Hong Quan.

The two Japanese officials attended a luncheon hosted by Dung and met with Planning and Investment Minister Vo Hong Phuc.

The Japanese government is positioning infrastructure exports as a pillar of its new growth strategy to be compiled in June. Top ministers traveling together to woo Vietnamese officials indicates Japan's unusual resolve to win orders.
