Back in 93 when I was a young pup I was doing some work up in Ketchikan, Alaska for about three weeks. It was my firs time in Alaska and the wild frontier atmosphere was very palpable. People in my downtown hotel were fighting late at night, drunk natives were plastered after cashing their gubmint checks, and the fishing was great when I got some time off.
One night someone was shot and murdered in town. The shooter told the police that it was his birthday and friends had given him a blowup doll as a gift. He said someone at his drunken party had stabbed and deflated the doll so he shot him in a fit of rage. We had a good chuckle at the diner that morning after reading the headline in the town paper. The next day it was discovered that the whole thing revolved around a cocaine deal gone bad.
Alaska has a wild feeling I have experience no where else. I love it and need to get back soon to explore more.
I guess it hasn’t changed much since the days they slew McGrew.
It’s a shame they never got to test the legal theory of extreme emotional disturbance from someone killing their “girlfriend.”
