You can see in the video that he is running around being disruptive, but does not appear to be threatening anyone.
He was however a Phillies fan.
Personally I would have gone with a good old fashioned beatdown for the entertainment value alone.
No. Hopefully it'll teach him to not be a drunken idiot at sporting events.
Plus, who doesn't like seeing people get tazed?
Nah, he didn't even make it to 3rd base. They should have aimed for the pitcher's mound.
“Excessive” force? No. Not enough force.
The Philadelphia Police have no dogs? This would have been perfect for a one hundred twenty five pound German Shepherd K-9 to show his stuff.
The lesson he learned here is something he can hold onto long after his College Education is paid off.
I also noticed how much Italians look like Middle Eastern Men too, he is lucky he was only zapped.
All Phillies fans should be subject to preemptive tasing. Sooner or later, they’re going to do something to deserve it.
Word. I say. let loose the dogs on these brainstems.
No it wasn’t excessive force. If I were an athlete I’d assume any moron that gets on the field has a weapon (like Monica Seles’ attacker). Then I’d dole out some bare knuckle justice.
THX 1138 alert!
what does that mean?
I'll be the contrarian here...
The Taser was sold as the "less lethal" alternative to firearms or police batons. LEOs can stop a guy without having to kill or maim him.
I find it highly unlikely that guy would have been shot or pounded for this infraction prior to the introduction to Tasers.
The ESPN story said he called his Dad from the ballpark to get his OK to run out on the field ... Dad told him he didn't think it was a good idea.
The most important thing we have a chance to do in this life is to trade our youth for wisdom ... hopefully Junior learned a little bit in this exchange.
He immigrated to the field illegally.
It should be legal to Taser Phillies fans wherever they are. Eagles fans too for that matter. Bravo!
Then it was probably worth it. Surely he received many high-fives at school the next day.
This is awesome (from Fenway park some time back):
yah...those Phillies Phans are just a ball of fun, huh?
Did the Phillies Phan who forced himself to vomit on the Police Officer and his 11 year old daughter a few weeks ago ever make to court?? Last I saw he had a nice shiner, but he didn’t get anywhere near the ass-kicking he deserved...
Don’t run out on the field. Problem solved. Idiots who feel that their personal thrill (”the world revolves around me”) comes before 40,000 fans deserve whatever they get.
There’s never a bad time to tase a Phillies fan.
It was absolutely excessive force. Many people have died as a result of taser shocks. It is not intended to be a convenient form of crowd control for the police. There are too many police who feel they can use the taser without any attempt to restrain the person physically. This won’t be a joke when the Obama-bots start using tasers on Tea Party members they decide are “unruly”.
Nice! Clobbered him!
I sort of agree in that the use of tasers seems to have resulted in many unintended deaths. On the other hand, people who would run onto the field like that should realize they are taking a risk of that sort.
Probably what needs to happen is that they need to post signs every 15 feet saying “anyone who breaches this fence line without express and proper authority is subject to physical restraint including being tazed”... or along that line so that it is clear that would be a consequence.
Of course they would have to put that up there in 12 languages or some non-English speaker will sue...
Angry white guy
It’s the name of a 1971 sci-fi movie called “THX 1138” starring Robert Duvall and directed by George Lucas .
In the movie robotic police use cattle prods to subdue the populace. Today’s taser is just a modern-day cattle prod for human beings.
Look it up online and read about it and then watch the movie. I think the whole thing is actually posted on YouTube.
I’ve heard they even taze Santa Claus in Philly...
The movie is a little disturbing not only for its content but also how much of it has become reality since its making. But the end of the movie does end on a positive note which I see happening now.
My hubby was at a Phillies game tonight. He said another guy ran out on the field tonight, and the crowd started chanting, “Tase him!”
He would have gotten the “Full Treatment”
Tased, then while on the ground, Peppersprayed and then roughed up a bit (EG knees to the back, a few face to the ground movements, ect).
He did get charged with assault on a police officer.
that is hilarious; hope someone got that on tape.
Plus, who doesn't like seeing people get tazed?
Let me guess. You also like to watch people with electrodes taped to their chest, and people getting herded into a train car with cattle prods.
Back in the civilized world though, most people consider electro-shock torture to be an inherently barbaric practice, and for a good reason. It's the same reason we don't use guillotines, stockades, and drawing & quartering anymore.
