Channel 4 To Air Flood Relief Telethon
Channel 4 WSMV TV Nashville ^

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- WSMV-TV Channel 4 will broadcast Working 4 You: Flood Relief with Vince Gill & Friends on Thursday, May 6, in prime time from 7 to 10 p.m.

Nashville and the surrounding middle Tennessee communities have been devastated by floodwaters after the area received 15 inches of rain within a 48-hour time period. Thousands of middle Tennesseans have been evacuated from their homes with many losing everything to the flood. Many of the victims do not have flood insurance, and the demands on relief agencies are stretched to the limit.

“These are our friends and family; we always take care of our friends and family,” said Meredith Senior Vice President and WSMV-TV General Manager Elden Hale Jr. “It’s unfortunate that we’re called upon to do this again for our neighbors, but we are very proud to have the ability to reach out to so many people with Nashville’s flood relief telethon.”

All proceeds from Working 4 You: Flood Relief with Vince Gill & Friends will benefit The Salvation Army, The Red Cross and The Second Harvest Food Bank.

Others involved include Naomi Judd, Phil Vassar, Bo Bice, Lee Roy Parnell, Darius Rucker.

The telethon will also be streamed live on WSMV.com.

FEMA is here in limited areas but that is so full of redtape. Obama just signed the disaster declaration late yesterday.

I want to know where Obama is on this. Where’s the federal response? Not that I am for the feds bumbling yet another one, the press would be all over the president if he had an “R” in the political party column.

Our President Present has made no statement of any kind except for signing the disaster declaration yesterday.

We have 10 dead in Nashville alone! And they are just hoping as the waters receded they dont find more bodies.

But silence from Obama...AND not a PEEP from Al Gore either. Guess we are just too “red”.

Flood photos of the Navy base in Millington

Facebook page, www.facebook.com/NSAMidSouth

The Shady Oaks Mobile Home park lost 300+ trailers, 7 feet of water in them. We are very water logged in Millington too. This is more damage than the 1987 flood.

His inaction, as well as the press’ non-coverage of it, speaks volumes.

Not trying to be too sarcastic, but perhaps the way he’s handling things, and his inability to do anything practical to deal with crises, you guys may be better off without Obama and his keystone cops down there. At least you won’t have feds coming around diarming you. Just don’t let the locals disarm you.

Madison County was hit very hard, as was Carroll County. Our relatives told us that the hospital in Milan was flooded and they needed to evacuate patients. They were unable to evacuate them to Huntingdon, because it was completely cut off due to flooded roads. I read that on Saturday evening, the only road out of Madison County was Rt 412 (toward Dyersburg). We got out of Jackson Saturday morning on Rt 412, and it was in bad shape already at 7:30, with a lot more rain yet to come.

My husband told me that two out of three levees broke in the area of Spring Creek. Had the third one gone, our relatives in Lavinia would have had major flooding. They're on a bit of a rise, and they were OK when we last spoke with them Sunday. I'm not sure about their son in the Nashville area though. He may have property damage. I'll feel better when I hear for sure . . .

We went to the Jackson area to tidy up and decorate family graves for Decoration Day on Sunday. So much for that idea!

"Just don’t let the locals disarm you"

I have a really hard time seeing that happening - from either side of the transaction!

Are you kidding? Our Legislature is finally turning Republican! We WILL have a Rep Gov next year!
A law just passed allowing guns in bars/restaurants to be carried by registered gun owners.
The Feds are not well thought of or welcomed here!
That is why the RadioThon yesterday (you can still give at www.wlac.com) and the Telethon tomorrow night are SO IMPORTANT!

You are lucky! We were in Atlanta for a Braves game and could not get further than Manchester on Sunday night. Coming home on 24W Monday morning was a bit dicey. LOTS and lots of flood debris everywhere! 40W was still closed at that time.
Good luck out there, I did hear about the levees in your area. Close call!

All the attention has been on Nashville. 52 Counties in TN were effected by this storm system. Dyersberg is in bad shape too. Not to mention those poor folks in AR and MS. They had twisters on top of the flooding.

We Tennesseans remember the Storm Troopers on the Capitol steps from a few years back, when the demorats and Boss Hogg Nafieh tried to ram the unconstitutional IT down our throats. I was there that day with a bull horn, at the base of the steps.
