Re: Waterboarding ...

There was a character on ‘24’ that was waterboarded (suprisingly not by Jack Bauer) a week or so ago.

The actress was actually waterboarded during filming — they tried something where she could breathe through tubes, but it apparently didn’t work ... so she said “just waterboard me”. She said filming went on for a day or two. She said it was scary and that she occasionally felt like she was going to drown — but she was unharmed by the process.

If an actress can be waterboarded for a TV show, and emerge unharmed ... why, exactly, is it too strenuous for terrorists?

I understand, I don’t object to waterboarding. I just feel like they should be executed afterwards so that we don’t have to listen to them freakin’ whine.

That was Katee Sackhoff, former star of Battlestar Galactica. She used to be a competitive swimmer. Perhaps that made it easier for her to cough-up water.

Because apparently you have to be tougher to be an actress in 24 than to be a terrorist.

Have you actually seen Manhands? Her tolerance to lead was a lot lower.

Since you asked,
1. Actresses are waterboarded voluntarily, and can stop the scene. Terrorists are waterboarded involuntarily, and can't terminate their detention. Consent is important; what is tolerable with consent may be intolerable without consent.
2. Terrorists are sleep deprived (perhaps a few hours a day), stripped naked, placed in stress positions for hours, thrown against walls, threatened with violence, and various and sundry other things for days, weeks, or months to put them in a state of extreme mental and physical debilitation. They don't do that to actresses.
3. They probably didn't waterboard her right. The interrogation program went beyond what the SERE guidelines allowed, and I really doubt the director of 24 went that far.

Because the water actually cleans the goat smell off and they become homesick for their wives and mothers. Oh, the inhumanity of it......

The actress, Katee Sackhoff, has created an excellent portrayal of a very bad gal.

I thought that looked awfully authentic. Couldn’t figure out how they did it. Guess “by actually doing it!”

Wow. Guess it’s not quite the “torture to end all tortures” the LSM made it out to be.

Also, just shows how wimpy jihadists are compared to one fine looking American actress with no particular training!

(Sorry, posting from my Blackberry, so I can’t abide by the “rules.”)

That was this past Monday night. I wondered how they did it and now we know.

I was a pretty tough guy when I got waterboarded. 18 seconds. Best in the class was 21.
