Nashville Flood 2010: The Disaster You May Not Have Heard About
Newsbusters ^ | 5/5/10 | Noel Sheppard

A great American city is currently buried under a sea of water, but you may not know much about it given all the attention media have given to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the failed car bomb attempt in New York's Times Square.

The rain totals are almost unimaginable as is the flooding.

Damage estimates at this point have already surpassed a billion dollars, and are likely to go higher.

Several of my readers have asked me to post the following video. I cried most of the time I watched. See if you can control your emotions better than I did (video follows with a list of some charitable organizations involved in storm relief, multiple hat-tips to readers in the area):

In stark contrast the media was ready to horsewhip Bush when Katrina happened.

But Obama gets a pass not only on the BP Oil Spill but the flood here in Nashville.

Nashville is handling this in a manner that shows they neither want nor need Obama and Big Brothers help. A most conservative city indeed.

This is a “Katrina-style” mess...but they will bounce back within twelve months and continue on. It’s the Tennessee attitude that makes them different.

Have they even bothered to declare it a disaster area, yet?

Has Obama even visited Nashville since the flood??

BTW, I learned that the Cumberland river flows from south to north. I have family in Clarksville forty miles northwest of Nashville, and the commercial riverside is under water.

Yes, where’s all the outrage?

Watch the video of the Christian church school’s portable building, which was swept off its foundation and floated across the football field onto I24. Watch what happens when the upside down vehicle runs into it from behind.

"It’s the Tennessee attitude that makes them different."

It's the Volunteer State . . .

Maybe the media attention would be greater if it was Memphis that was flooded.

I have no doubt that would be the case.

Several diverse inhabited areas were inundated by the flooding last weekend. Channels 3 and 5 have had the diversies on TV crying where is the government that is supposed to help them? The rest of the folks near Memphis are working and rebuilding...except for the diversies that expect government handouts and babying.

Nashville is has been controlled by Democrats at least since the end of reconstruction.

Actually, our Dem governor has been pretty conservative.

Not one word about Memphis's flooding problems. I have friends who have had extensive damage and the Navy base at Millington is still closed.

We were! But, then again true to form, everyone else in the state treats us like red headed stepchildren.

lol North Mississippi, Memphis and Millington (a nearby suburb) DID flood the day before Nashville got it. (Same storm system). You didn’t hear about it? Oh well....there goes your theory.

I hope your friends will be ok. My neighborhood received extensive damage, as well. My house is ok but some of the homes 2 doors down were flooded. I live out in Waverly and you could see the flood waters of the Loosahatchie River off in the fields.

Chuckle. How bad was the flooding in Memphis, by the way?
