While Katie Couric and Michael Bloomberg were surmising that Tea Party Patriots were behind the failed New York bombing, Nashville was waking up to the aftermath of the areas largest rainfall in 500 years.
The storms began rolling in Saturday afternoon as I watched the radar. By early evening, I was glued to the local news. People were fleeing their cars, as they began to float. A Christian school building was swept away and joined cars and trucks drifting down highway 24.
The damage is devastating, the cost is in the billions; thousands have lost everything, but is it news worthy? Not really, not to the extent it deserves. Some are asking why, but some of us believe the answer is obvious.

Where’s Schlep Smith?
“Wheres Schlep Smith?”
I was just wondering the same thing. He should be there, crying and blubbering all over himself.
Kabama!
Nashville? That’s in the Bible Belt. Probably full of Bitter Clingers and Militia types. Too much God and too many guns. All those Country Music stars, and aside from Charlie Pride, can’t recall one of color. Nothing to see here, move along....
This thread has tons of photos of the flooding in Millington, Dyer, Jackson, and some links to photos of the twisters that hit AR and MS. Links with in links to earlier posted threads just scroll down.
The Navy base where the Bureau of Personnel is housed at Millington was flooded when the Big Creek Levy gave way. Navy housing was evacuated. So we have a number of Military families in need. Shady Oaks trailer court had 300+ trailers under 7-8 feet of water, they evacuated it too. Other trailer parks had damage along with business.

We threw our own Tea Party several years ago to prevent an UNCONSTITUTIONAL State Income Tax. The governor then called out the Storm Troopers then to surround the Capitol bldg...I was there that day.
Compared to the hysterical tone of the coverage of the floods of the Northeast a few weeks ago, I would venture the scale of this disaster is mainly unknown to those here in the NorthEast.
Don’t forget the ICE STORM that did millions in damage years before the Wind Storm.
Ditto for Millington, Dyer Co, Jackson, etc. Only local news coverage. We had footage of Dyersberg on News 5 in Memphis.
Barry hates white people and wants them to die.
I saw quite a bit on Millington on Fri here in Nashville. They were covering it closely on the news. Then.....Saturday the world fell on Nashville

We are seeing both here in Memphis. The entire corridor from Memphis to Nashville is effected.
***When I talk to people outside the Nashville area they have no clue how bad it is here.***
I have kin in Nashville. My Aunt was almost trapped in the flooding on Briley Parkway. She sent me pictures of the devestation in downtown Nashville and Opryland.
It is bad!
I was just out earlier this afternoon and went from West End Ave to Goodlettsville back thru downtown.
IT STINKS in some areas..I mean it REALLY REALLY STINKS. The smell is overwhelming in some areas that look perfectly NORMAL. It smells of sewage and damp. Horrible. I had my AC on and windows up and could STILL smell it.
There are dumpsters full of damaged wet, soggy, nasty possesions. Peoples LIVES gone.
I went thru downtown..part of Lower Broadway is open..from 4thAveN to the river is CLOSED and still without power. It was weird to see business open and people out just a couple of blocks from there.
Bridgestone Arena was supposed to host the Natl Day of Prayer..they are all sitting outside on folding chairs competing with some of the sounds from the reopened few bars.
Overall, on the major thoroughfares, it looks normal. Then you go in a couple of blocks and things begin to look different..then the SMELL hits you.
I didnt get to the Opryland Hotel area, I will try to go there tomorrow. Continue to use the following resources for updates:

I haven’t been back to Millington since day after, I suspect it is as bad. Millington took the brunt of Shelby County’s damage. And the rest of Memphis looks like business as usual.
Wonder when the country music stars do fund raisers for Nashville that the rest of the state will be supported too?
Thanks Backhoe, could you post some thing about the Navy base in Millington being hard hit as was Millington, which took the brunt of the flooding in Shelby Co. Just go back through the threads on the links I put on the thread.
