20 Things You Will Need To Survive When The Economy Collapses And The Next Great Depression Begins
Michael Snyder

(This is a guest post from The Economic Collapse Blog.)

Today, millions of Americans say that they believe that the United States is on the verge of a major economic collapse and will soon be entering another Great Depression. But only a small percentage of those same people are prepared for that to happen. The sad truth is that the vast majority of Americans would last little more than a month on what they have stored up in their homes.
Most of us are so used to running out to the supermarket or to Wal-Mart for whatever we need that we never even stop to consider what would happen if suddenly we were not able to do that. Already the U.S. economy is starting to stumble about like a drunken frat boy. All it would take for the entire U.S. to resemble New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina would be for a major war, a terror attack, a deadly pandemic or a massive natural disaster to strike at just the right time and push the teetering U.S. economy over the edge. So just how would you survive if you suddenly could not rely on the huge international corporate giants to feed, clothe and supply you and your family? Do you have a plan?

Are you prepared?

Already covered, and adding more to sustain it all the time...
“Preparedness and Perseverance will triumph over Paranoia and Procrastination everytime...” — (me, 1985)
It always bothered me in “Road Warrior” when Max’s dog got killed...
Survival/Preparedness ping! Don’t miss this one!
This is why Obama and Pelosi need to pass another ‘stimulus’ bill fast!
"You said nothing bad ever happened to you."
Slack, to Riley, in Land of the Dead
...most of us have the basics of bullets, beans and bandaids...so I rank community #1....you need at least 6 others to share 24 hr pickett guard duty...there will be wolf packs of looters...remember this: even a soccer mom will kill you to get food for her children.
Stock up. Arm up. Load up. Man up.
I read the article. That is not preparing for a depression, that is preparing for the end of civilization like in that movie “The Postman”.
BTW : when we stock up all that food, water, boots and batteries and move in that log cabin, How will we check on what Obama is doing on FR with no internet and FNC with no cable TV?
Goofy.
I think we’ve been in the Great Depression 2 for a while and it’s already The End of the World as We Know It. I don’t foresee life returning to the way it was any time soon, possibly never.
I have plenty of vegetable seeds. I even have a deep well with a hand pump. I have 22 hens and one gay rooster (useless for propagation). I have 4 horses, 1 saddle and 2 donkeys, one donkey trained to carry a pack. I have a 4 acre ‘lake’ loaded with fish. Plenty of wild berries, several wild plums trees.
I have 10 acres of woods, plenty of firewood. But I can’t imagine cutting up wood without a chain saw.
I imagine I could survive...but it would certainly take some major rethinking and more effort than I can imagine.
But...I come from pioneer stock and am hopeful that particular DNA would kick in.
“Supply of hard currency (silver, gold, etc.)”
....I do this two ways:
gold coins....to defend wealth
junk silver coins...for barter
at the rate we’re going, paper money will soon be used for toilet paper.
It bothered me in "One Second After" when the dog was eaten.
The idiots still have cable to let the regime get the message out. Fox/Saudia is only slightly better than the others.
Any article that leaves out guns and ammo is useless.
So sadly, I agree :(.
you may want to get another rooster...and prolly will want it in a separate pen from your existing rooster.
Just thought of something darkly humorous -
sure, paper money might be used for toilet paper,
and TOILET PAPER MIGHT BE USED FOR MONEY!
Got you covered buddy.
Bull-dozers at the ready to build roadblocks, berms and etc.
Eat the rooster,
get another one.

Ordinary common sense...
Post-crash society will be well defined by those that can produce goods and services. You better have extra skills and cross-training.
I will need some donuts
The prudent see danger and take refuge,
but the simple keep going and suffer for it.

If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and
especially for his immediate family, he has
denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Faith and a small green Gideon pocket Bible?
Ordinary common sense.....
And situational awareness.
Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
Definitely, skills are of utmost importance.
I’ve got things I know how to do that I haven’t had to do in a long while - grew up in a poor farm family.
Fix it, make it, save it, or do without it.
I worry that most of my friends have had no exposure to such a life.
That is if we can survive the non-producers and vampires/leeches that "need killin' before we can return back to the norm.
Better get into shape and have a strong back.......grave yard digger is going to be a hell of a skill as well as lumberjack.
been there. done that. i am not preparing again. :-)
Yup, #16: Self-Defense Equipment, and they show some loony bozo with a spear. They just can’t come out and say GUN, can they? Although they practically spell it out for you.
Without that GUN, you can’t keep the other 19 things on this list.
Without that GUN, you WILL be killed by someone in the apocalyptic world.
LOL! good advice! I ‘rescued’ this rooster in a January snow storm. He was hovering around my chicken pen, his comb almost black from the cold. I let him in my pen so he could get into the chicken house and survive.
I don’t know where he came from, but I am sure where ever it was, he was run off by other roosters! My hens ignore him.
That's another thing to add to The List..................
Someone observed that before the hordes come to pillage the countryside, they’ll have killed a bunch of each other first.
This is good and bad in that there will be fewer of them,
but they will be “veterans”.
Also, the further from a population center you live, the better, because of the inverse square effect - they’ll thin out considerably faster the further out you are.
And, it has to be said, the demographics of your nearest population center are going to be a factor as well.
For example, perhaps 25 miles from Spokane, Wa would be safe, but 80 miles from St Louis might not be.
Aside from all my guns and ammo falling overboard in a boating accident, I am prepared.
Wow. Tough break.
I gave all mine away as gifts to friends.
I forget their names now...
All I need is....directions to your place. ;o)
I have more guns than I know what to do with, but I don't have enough hands or sleep hours to use them if need be. I need trigger pullers and sentries.
For those without a large gun collection, and not much money, go out and purchase a Ruger 10/22 or Ruger 77/22, 1000 rounds of ammo, a sling, a scope, and start practicing.
Alot of "preppers" want to give me hell for recommending a .22LR, but the ammo is good for barter, cheap, easy, reliable, and dont the the round fool you, you can easily kill a man or deer with it with proper shot placement.
If its TEOTWAWKI, then you can make a suppressor for the rifle easily, since you won't have to worry about government agents anymore.
One thing I didn't like about this list is TOOLS. YOu need an extensive amount of tools and supplies to MAKE and REPAIR things. For instance, we have a horse drawn plow, tack gear for pairing draft horses, extra rakes and shovels, and even broken shovel heads and handles. Hope that helps!
Really? Just 20? Why not 50? 100? Do you really think that you’ll survive because of “things”? You’ll survive [or not] for other reasons.
Where’s “move to another country”>
Donated mine to ACORN.
Live near Little Rock with a very high dark-skinned "Amish" population if you get my drift. Hence owning a couple of belt-feds (LEGAL ATF form 3&4'd!) If SHTF, gonna have to bug out via rail old rail road head and fire lane and book 120 miles up to Harrison, AR in the Ozarks.
Society has about 48-72 hours before the vampires come out and chaos reigns. Awareness and Prepardness will cause most of the good guys to survive.....after 72 hrs though....all bets off, survival of the fittest if you haven't relocated.
Bears repeating.
The writers left out knowledge and skills before you need them.
You probably would enjoy the ending of “A Boy and His Dog” better. Post-apocalypse world, boy meets girl, boy saves girl, boy feeds girl to dog at the end. Starring a young Don Johnson.
