20 Things You Will Need To Survive When The Economy Collapses And The Next Great Depression Begins

(This is a guest post from The Economic Collapse Blog.)

Today, millions of Americans say that they believe that the United States is on the verge of a major economic collapse and will soon be entering another Great Depression. But only a small percentage of those same people are prepared for that to happen. The sad truth is that the vast majority of Americans would last little more than a month on what they have stored up in their homes.

Most of us are so used to running out to the supermarket or to Wal-Mart for whatever we need that we never even stop to consider what would happen if suddenly we were not able to do that. Already the U.S. economy is starting to stumble about like a drunken frat boy. All it would take for the entire U.S. to resemble New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina would be for a major war, a terror attack, a deadly pandemic or a massive natural disaster to strike at just the right time and push the teetering U.S. economy over the edge. So just how would you survive if you suddenly could not rely on the huge international corporate giants to feed, clothe and supply you and your family? Do you have a plan?

Are you prepared?

Just thought of something darkly humorous -

sure, paper money might be used for toilet paper,

and TOILET PAPER MIGHT BE USED FOR MONEY!

"...most of us have the basics of bullets, beans and bandaids...so I rank community #1....you need at least 6 others to share 24 hr pickett guard duty...there will be wolf packs of looters...remember this: even a soccer mom will kill you to get food for her children."

Got you covered buddy.

Me and the Mrs. got a foot powered sewing machine for her tailoring, and I got into beekeeping last year (alas babylon anyone)?

Post-crash society will be well defined by those that can produce goods and services. You better have extra skills and cross-training.

The prudent see danger and take refuge,
but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
Proverbs 27:12

If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and
especially for his immediate family, he has
denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Definitely, skills are of utmost importance.

I’ve got things I know how to do that I haven’t had to do in a long while - grew up in a poor farm family.

Fix it, make it, save it, or do without it.

I worry that most of my friends have had no exposure to such a life.

That is if we can survive the non-producers and vampires/leeches that "need killin' before we can return back to the norm.

Better get into shape and have a strong back.......grave yard digger is going to be a hell of a skill as well as lumberjack.

Yup, #16: Self-Defense Equipment, and they show some loony bozo with a spear. They just can’t come out and say GUN, can they? Although they practically spell it out for you.

Without that GUN, you can’t keep the other 19 things on this list.
Without that GUN, you WILL be killed by someone in the apocalyptic world.

LOL! good advice! I ‘rescued’ this rooster in a January snow storm. He was hovering around my chicken pen, his comb almost black from the cold. I let him in my pen so he could get into the chicken house and survive.

I don’t know where he came from, but I am sure where ever it was, he was run off by other roosters! My hens ignore him.

at the rate we’re going, paper money will soon be used for toilet paper.

That's another thing to add to The List..................

Someone observed that before the hordes come to pillage the countryside, they’ll have killed a bunch of each other first.

This is good and bad in that there will be fewer of them,
but they will be “veterans”.

Also, the further from a population center you live, the better, because of the inverse square effect - they’ll thin out considerably faster the further out you are.

And, it has to be said, the demographics of your nearest population center are going to be a factor as well.
For example, perhaps 25 miles from Spokane, Wa would be safe, but 80 miles from St Louis might not be.

Aside from all my guns and ammo falling overboard in a boating accident, I am prepared.
