btw....East Texas is very southern....Texas too which is distinct obviously..Texas is like it’s own little world. My uncle is in Pritchett (Gilmer-Gladewater-Big Sandy area). I lived in Beaumont for a while. The oil patch areas of Texas got a big influx of northerners looking for work in the later 70s and 80s. That was when I was in Beaumont area...most came from north of Fort Wayne...real north

whenever someone asks if Texas is part of the South you just have to tell them to drive across the border into New Mexico and listen.

Oklahoma is southern too...and western.

I moved here 4 1/2 years ago from Chicago to get away from two things: cold weather and Democrats. Mission accomplished.

You make a great point, though. Culturally, most of Texas isn’t really considered “the South,” and appropriately so. East Texas though is another matter. Redder than red.

Here are the percentages McCain got in the counties around me:

Gregg (my home county) - 68.7%
Upshur - 73.1%
Smith - 69.6%
Rusk - 72.9%
Harrison - 65.5%

I love it here. I’ve always been fond of the south...my mother is from Oklahoma and I used to got there every summer when I was a kid. Oklahoma may or may not be the south, but I’ll take it over Chicago any time.

Hank

I’m in Williamson County TN...69%

the southern accent of native Texans pretty much defines the place hence my comment about how the accent changes at the New Mexico line

i had kin in Santa Fe...they lost their Miss accents..mine faded when I lived in Manhattan but back now

most conservative folks in the country are probably white Mississipians and Alabamians...and East Texas too...no ambiguity in the culture war there

whites in Miss voted 88% (R)

but let’s be honest...there are libtards in Dixie too...Nashville proper is eat up with them and they did not all come from up north of Kali...lots of well educated homegrown lefty kids and red diaper babies too

i’m ashamed and I apologize
