Four in ten babies are born outside marriage in the U.S.
Daily Mail ^ | May 7, 2010 | Staff

The number of children born outside marriage in the United States has increased dramatically to four out of ten of all births. Figures show that 41 per cent of children born in 2008 did not have married parents - up from 28 per cent in 1990.

Remember when Daniel Moynihan sounded the alarm in the 1960s, and got a lot of grief, about the 25% illegitimacy rate in the black community. These are all future Democratic voters because they will look the government to replace the role the husband should play.

This is greasing the skids into the abyss for the US.

Of course, if you rail about it, you are accused of being anti woman, racist, or someother slander. This is the me me me generation on steroids.

Yep.

The role of Fathers is lost now, and they've successfully instilled the "single parent" term into the Lexicon for everyone, via the Liberal teachings in public schools, and via Liberal Professors in academia.

The total dumbing-down of society has forced (via psychological indoctrination) to consider "tolerance and sensitivity", while taxing the crap out of us FORCING Mothers to go to work to have sufficient family income to exist. Unless, of course, you are one of the fourth generation welfare lot who merely understand that they don't need to work, they don't care WHO fathers their children, but will live off the earnings of others from the Socialists/Communists who buy their votes with others' money.

The nuclear family is near-extinct, too, and TV's and Daycare have replaced parenting. The ONLY values these slut-mother-only-families learn are how to game the system and exist.

Many babies are born out of wedlock because of the government benefits available if you are an unwed mother. My niece told me many of her friends in high school purposely got pregnant because they wanted the government money. Unfortunately, she is pregnant and unmarried as well.

I think in the early 1960s the illegitimacy rate for Blacks was 30 percent. Now it is about 70 percent.

For Whitey it was about 10 percent in 1960 and has now grown to 30 percent. Give it a few more decades with more welfare and entitlements and 70 percent should be reached in a decade or two.

Why would any sane male get married? To volunteer to take a ride on the Titanic? Yes, you might come out of alive, but the odds are that you're screwed royally.

I'm in my mid 30’s and single. Out of all my married friends 1 of them is happy, the others are miserable. And I've heard the “I can't afford to get divorced” line several times. So, you have people living in misery with children to take care of.

Just last month, one friend of a friend got divorced after 15 years (and 1 child) because he found the wife screwing some guy from Facebook.

The one friend who is very happily married is from South America originally (as is his wife). Is this a positive factor? You betcha!

Men have to be crazy to get married in this country unless they have a prenup, wealthy wife, and a secret stash of cash and weapons no omne knows about.

You can blame the court system and the govt for this.

"turn all of this around if we stopped giving our children to the liberal-controlled government schools to be corrupted."

Sadly, for MOST families, the prospect of doing that is limited by the work-to-pay-taxes Mom's who have to supplement the family income, and can't afford to stay home anymore.

This was also fostered with the intentional Women's Liberation move to get mothers to think income-producing jobs was attractive to show "worth", as opposed to serving the role of a traditional stay-at-home-Mom....and here we are in this mess today.

When you consider abortions, a full 48% of all pregnancies in the United States now occur to women who are not married. I expect that before long, pregnancies to married women will become the minority situation for the first time in our history.

America was a great idea, but it does appear that it may be pretty much over.

Do you realize that a very large percentage of homeschool families get by on less than the median income? The problem is in part excessive materialism.

People also need to remember that culture is like markets - change occurs at the margin. Everyone doesn’t have to homeschool, but if another 30% took their children out of government reeducation camps, the reign of the liberals would be well on the way to being over.

It's not just the blacks churning out the illegitimate children. There are a lot of white shacker-uppers having kids out of wedlock.

Oh, for the days of shame, which served a valuable function in society.

It's good to get the order right: First comes love, then comes marriage, THEN comes the baby in the baby carriage.

Exactly! The laws are designed to make it financially easier for people to remain unmarried. There is no societal stigma attached to unmarried partners or unmarried parents. So why would anyone do it other than religious beliefs?

Oh yeah, if only we had sex education in the schools!

And free birth control.

And abortion on demand, also free.

Yes, it would then be a perfect world.

But wait! All those wonderful ideas are here and things aren’t perfect? Who woulda thought?

“And religion isn’t strong enough to override that.”

A discarded religion, perhaps, but what of Islam? It remains unapologetically ancient in its professed mores and is impervious to the kind of “reform” Christianity has been put through by the crackpot left in its ranks. When the bow breaks, might Islam present itself as the way to return to societal sanity? It is deceptive in its appearance of holding to a traditional form of healthy society (pro marriage, family, against abortion), while being full of the dead men’s bones of dead religion (they are anti-Christ and, therefore really of the devil).

A cure worse than the disease, but still possibly appealing to a lost, godless generation.

As soon as children come into the picture women get 100% of the power in the relationship. With or without marriage. Why get married? A woman gets to have a baby, get to be supported by the man, and never have to put up with the snoring or any manly annoyances.

I fear that you may be correct, but keep in mind that the only reason it is obeyed in the muslim countries is because it is enforced under the rule of sharia law. In other words, without fear of barbaric punishment, most wouldn’t uphold those traditions either.

“Remember when Daniel Moynihan sounded the alarm in the 1960s, and got a lot of grief, about the 25% illegitimacy rate in the black community. “

I’m not old enough to remember it, but I believe in 1954 there were a number of published books and studies talking about the out of wedlock births of the black community. As the civil rights movement had heated up in 1954 the response was to show how blacks lived, and this was a major issue.

Agreed. So as not to be misunderstood, I do not view Islam as upright in reality, only in apparent structure. All manner of demonic activity is at the heart of that cult. Satan plays all sides against the other, and can appear as a servant of righteousness when it suits him.

“Every 36 seconds in America a women lays her body down, forced to choose abortion out of a lack of practical resources and emotional support. Abortion is a reflection that society has failed women.” Patricia Heaton | Actress

Young women are waking up to the painful results of an elective abortion and the lifelong regret. Older educated women, where we see a large swing, are financially capable.

Nowhere in this article do I read that fathers aren't playing a financial or emotional role in the baby's life.
