Texas Leads the Way: Business Leaders Once Again Rate Texas the Best State for Business
Chief Executive Magazine ^ | May 4, 2010

The Lone Star State stands alone as America’s best state in which to do business. That’s how more than 600 CEOs across America rate Texas. Chief Executive Magazine polled a total of 651 corporate CEOs, who, for the fifth year in a row, gave Texas top honors for the state’s openness to business, our reasonable regulatory environment, the level of taxation, quality of our workforce and living environment.

“Texas’ unrivaled success over the past several years is no accident,” said Republican Party of Texas Chairman Cathie Adams. “Texans are can-do people who maximize our freedoms to pursue the American dream. And conservative governance, led by Gov. Rick Perry and our Republican statewide officeholders and legislature, is our secret to empowering Texans. Under Republican leadership, Texas keeps government out of the way by keeping our government small, our regulatory system predictable, our reformed tort system fair, and our tax burden on families and businesses among the lowest in the nation. This all translates into one thing Texans need: Jobs.” Added Republican Party spokesman Bryan Preston: “When you look at the Chief Executive list, after you see Texas on top again, it’s hard not to notice who’s at the bottom. The states where the entrenched Democrat left has grown government the most are also the states that are the least friendly to business. And they all happen to have the highest unemployment rates, too. It’s clear that in those states, Democrat leaders care more about a whole bunch of other issues than about fostering free enterprise. Big government kills jobs, period.” The Top Ten states for business, according to the CEO poll, are Texas, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Nevada, Florida, Georgia, Colorado, Utah and South Carolina. The worst five states are, from the bottom, California, New York, Michigan, New Jersey and Massachusetts.

According to Chief Executive’s article accompanying the poll:

Texas, the second-most populous state and the world’s 12th largest economy, is where 70 percent of all new U.S. jobs have been created since 2008. Unsurprisingly, it scores high in all the areas CEOs value most. “You feel like state government understands the value of business and industry to create jobs and growth,” observed one CEO. Its tax credits and incentives to business choosing to locate or expand are among the most aggressive. The Texas Enterprise Fund is by far the largest deal-closing fund of any state, with grants totaling $377 million disbursed in 2008. Democratic candidate for governor, liberal trial lawyer Bill White, has repeatedly attacked and belittled the Texas Enterprise Fund.

Here is the Texas record under Republican leadership:

> Texas is home to more Fortune 500 companies than any other state.
> Over the past decade, more private-sector jobs were created in Texas than any other state.
> Texas has the top cities for success.
> Texas was the last state into the recession and is likely to be the first out of it.

If you want to find a career, own a home, have a family and live the American dream, Texas is the best state to live and work in.

Texas has always had its own self-sustaining economy. It truly is its own country.

And will soon become it’s own country if Washington DC continues to disregard the US Constitution.

Many native Texans would argue that it is and remains the Republic of Texas.

And we intend to keep it this way, as soon as we force Gov. Goodhair to drive illegal aliens out of our state. The Reconqistas are waiting and so are we. If anyone intends to come to Texas, be prepared for this upcoming fight because it's going to happen.

Look all around the nation at Mexicans waving their flag in our faces DEMANDING unearned citizenship.

It’s not perfect here in Texas but if other debt saddled states would take a cue maybe they could turn their bad economic prospects around too instead of their socialist-lite mentalities.

Lets see how our debt situation is after the legislature meets this Jan and finally develops the next two year budget. I've seen numbers ranging from $11 - $18 billion in deficits. Obama may not provide another stimulus like he did last budget session.

Texas should secede now before Washington shoves their compassionate communism down our throats. I’m truly not as worried about the border to the South as I am the borders to the North. All these Yankees streaming down here to take the jobs we Texans are creating. I bet 70% will vote Democrat too, having not learned any lessons.

Shhhhhhhhhhh....I'm getting tired of non-Freepers from the North coming here to look for jobs. That's a major reason why the unemployment rate is as high as it is in TX.

Freepers from any state are always welcome, especially that man named Jim Thompson!

We need more conservatives to move to Texas to overwhelm the coming wave of young socialists. We definitely need to kill of any amnesity to prevent a socialist take over of Texas and the country.
We are on our last run at CA. Unless things improve..we will leave for another conservative state.

"> Over the past decade, more private-sector jobs were created in Texas than any other state."

More to the point:
Over the past decade, more private-sector jobs were created in Texas than in all other states combined.
