New (SEIU) Union Leader Wants Group to Be More of a Political Powerhouse
New York Times ^ | May 9, 2010 | Steven Greenhouse

Posted on 05/09/2010 7:30:16 AM PDT by Zakeet

As the eldest daughter among 10 siblings — and the third-eldest in all — Mary Kay Henry, the incoming president of the Service Employees International Union, says she was born to be an organizer.

[Snip]

Ms. Henry will need more than organizing skills to fill the shoes of her visionary but divisive predecessor, Andy Stern, who was a prominent political player.

Under Mr. Stern, the service employees became a formidable force in presidential, Congressional and governors’ races and was the nation’s fastest-growing union, expanding to nearly two million members.

Eager to make her mark, Ms. Henry, 52, is vowing to turn the union into even more of an organizing and political powerhouse, with hopes of unionizing more than 150,000 workers a year and giving the service employees even more political weight.

[Snip]

She is a straight talker with a strong, comforting voice who speaks freely about how her Roman Catholic upbringing nourished her interest in social justice, about being a lesbian and about her hopes to use her new position to battle for workers’ rights, immigrants’ rights and gay rights.

Her father was a salesman and her mother was a substitute teacher. After graduating from Michigan State University in 1979, she took a job with the service employees’ union because it, unlike some others, was hiring female organizers.

In her decades of organizing, Ms. Henry became a master practitioner of the labor strategy that companies hate most: corporate campaigns. In one major success, she led a four-year corporate campaign against Catholic Health Care West, a chain of California hospitals, branding it antiworker and lining up the support of several Catholic bishops.

That campaign led to unionizing 17,000 workers at 27 hospitals.

She must be inspired by the actions of the labor unions in Greece...they, along with their communist partners were successful in murdering 3 people in a bank last week.

Hitler formed the German Workers Party in order to meet the same goals this misinformed, sadly idiotic woman desires so badly. Do none of them EVER look at the END GAME of their goals? Pure, total communism with EVERYTHING given to the state in return, for what? Zero control on your own life? Do these nut cases REALLY, in the end game, want the GOVERNMENT TO DETERMINE exactly what they can make money wise? They really WANT this? Are they Americans?

I think they really believe the govt can do everything better and by being part of the leadership they will be exempt from the problems they will cause.

They can't possibly be stupid enough to believe that turning the U.S. into a socialist state has a long term future.

The powerful and greedy Teachers’ Unions will be cut off at the knees, coming to a State near you! Their funding and extortions have caused budget collapses in California and many more shortfalls in countless other States. The rise of the red unions is at an end, Andy saw it coming and jumped ship before it hit the iceberg. Bye, bye Marxist control of our schools, you got too greedy and bit the hand that overfed you.

With the very freedom our Constitution gave us, it has given the communists the very tool to destroy us. Unions, in the beginning helped workers, but now they are just a political tool used to elect communists. Why the rank and file do not see how destructive they have become is an indication of greed and protect-ism the unions gives its members. Sad.

As I’ve been told many times by public sector union members, “We only demand for ourselves what everybody deserves - we’re just setting the example.”

They really believe this, apparently.

Otherwise, they’d just be self-serving hogs at the government trough, and that couldn’t possibly be true because they’re all dutiful servants of the public interest.

Actually, I'm afraid many of them do...and they are intentionally seeking those goals...of course with their own group as the ones in power.

Until the war went badly for them, consider the life of a Nazi leader...plush housing, able to confiscate the finest art for your own amusement...no one able to question your decisions...pretty plush, as long as you're the thug at the top. And I believe that's where the union leaders and communists view themselves.

The Obama Admin continues to rollback union financial disclosures......as they did union-boss perk disclosures, and conflict-of-interest disclosure reporting that SEIU may be ignoring..........

The disclosures about to be rescinded are about secrecy---to keep secret the lobby's expenditures to advance Big Labor’s agenda. Obama’s Secy of Labor Hilda Solis----who takes her orders from Third World----is the former treasurer of Big Labor's "American Rights at Work" lobby (ARAW).

Any fool can plainly see that endangered Dems are frantic----rushing to get money into the hands of ACORN, SEIU, immigrant groups, and others, BEFORE the Nov 2010-12 elections.

Even stupid Dems know that, for them, it's curtains in 2010-12---unless massive voter fraud takes place. They need to buy votes, and are pulling out all the stops to get billions into the hands of their operatives---ACORN, SEIU, immigrant groups, and others.

Sodomites were at the core of the Third Reich. It is not an accident that the profoundly spiritually disordered are destroyers. Unfortunately, even “conservatives” today are not willing to confront the evil of the sodomite movement in the US.

SEIU BLOG: Foundation Laid for Needed Immigration Reform
August 20, 2009 | by Joaquin Guerra
FR Posted by machogirl

In a meeting to convene a diverse group of labor, advocacy, faith and business leaders, SEIU Executive Vice President Eliseo Medina met with Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano to discuss immigration reform. As an added bonus, President Barack Obama made an unscheduled visit to the meeting and reiterated his support of pushing through a comprehensive immigration package this Congress.

The Hill reports that: "Obama urged leaders to work together in order to pass comprehensive immigration reform. Advocates took the presidential visit as a sign of the administration's commitment to the issue."

In the first of its kind meeting -- to convene a diverse group of advocates to begin sketching a framework for reform--SEIU Vice President Medina issued the following statement:

"Today's White House meeting with Secretary Napolitano and a diverse group of labor, faith, and business leaders is an important step towards shaping smart, comprehensive immigration reform legislation in the comings months. As the leader of the Department that has for far too long been tasked with the impossible job of enforcing broken, outdated laws, Secretary Napolitano knows first-hand how critical it is that we pass sweeping immigration reforms that are smart, enforceable and strengthen our economy for the long term.

"In coming months as the immigration debate heats up, Secretary Napolitano will play a central role in promoting real progress on the issue. In order to achieve the smart policy solution that the American public wants, we urge Secretary Napolitano to stand up publicly, light the fire and become an outspoken champion of comprehensive reform.

"Enforcement without reform has been tried for decades with dismal results. Instead of solving problems, it wastes taxpayer dollars, marginalizes immigrant communities and degrades the quality of life for all workers.

"In particular, expansion of employment verification programs like E-Verify is like painting the roof when the house is on fire; it's the wrong solution at the wrong time.

"For every day we delay on passing a solution to our broken immigration system, we impede our nation's economic recovery, create unnecessary divisions in our workforce, and cost taxpayers billions of wasted dollars.

"It is unacceptable to live in a country where millions of workers are living in shadows. The only way to ensure that every job in this country is filled by a legal permanent resident is to get undocumented immigrants out of the underground economy, into the system and under the rule of law. Diverse groups are aligned on the need for a comprehensive solution. Now we need the Administration and Congress to take bold steps, roll up their sleeves and pass smart reforms once and for all.

Shortly after the meeting, Secretary Napolitano issued a statement on the meeting saying: "Today's meeting on comprehensive immigration reform was an important opportunity to hear from stakeholders and build on the significant time I've spent on the Hill meeting with members of Congress on this critical subject. I look forward to working with President Obama, my colleagues in Congress and representatives from law enforcement, business, labor organizations, the interfaith community, advocacy groups and others as we work on this important issue."

"New (SEIU) Union Leader Wants Group to Be More of a Political Powerhouse"

Hell, they already practically own an entire political party. Is that not good enough?

PS: Why in the hell did they get a gender bender to be their new leader? (As long as they're a corrupt socialist I guess...)

Over and above the millions who violate our borders, 1.5 million legal foreign workers come to the US each year, as a matter of course.

But this number isn’t high enough for Dem Cong Gutierrez and his 92 co-sponsors. Their Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill includes a provision called “recapture” that will add up all the supposedly “unused” work visas since 1992 and issue them immediately.

This is a complete fraud, as all unused work visas are rolled over to the family reunification category the next year as it is.

Gutierrez' Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill will create 100,000 visas from countries that send the most illegal immigrants every year. According to the State Department, this will mean 550,000 new foreign workers.

AND GET THIS Mexico is the staging area for Third World and other illegals preparing to violate our borders. The Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill rewards Mexico b/c they calculatedly promote illegal immigration.

Gutierrez' bill will make it much easier for more illegal aliens to break in. Under the Bill, to prove they have jobs and were in the country BEFORE Congress passed amnesty, illegals are allowed to use stolen ID's, fake green cards, and fraudulent SS numbers....... without fear of prosecution.

Mexico facilitates the profitable staging area for global illegals to cross the border. Contrary to Obama’s claim that CIR bill will increase border security, it does just the opposite.........

<> it guts successful enforcement measures,

<> limits raids on illegal immigrants,

<> prohibits use of troops on the border,

<> replaces E-Verify used to ensure employers hire legal American workers,

<> overturns all state and local US laws that crackdown on illegal immigration,

<> abolishes 287(g) that allows local L/E and federal authorities to apprehend criminal illegals.

Gutierrez makes Van Jones look like a patriot.

And we'll be paying real close attention to every move she makes.

RE:” Enforcement without reform has been tried for decades with dismal results

Liar, Not only hasn't Obama tried enforcement, but he is demonizing enforcement like those before him did, but even worse.

RE: “The only way to ensure that every job in this country is filled by a legal permanent resident is to get undocumented immigrants out of the underground economy, into the system and under the rule of law..

...by rewarding them for breaking the law with the same rights and government benefits as US citizens or legal immigrants that followed the law.

Maybe we can get foreign Muslim terrorists out of the shadows by legalizing them too...
