Obama's Supermarket-Scanner Moment: I Don't Know How To Work an iPod
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 05/09/2010 11:09:37 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Remember when the MSM went crazy over [and likely exaggerated] George H.W.'s supposed unfamiliarity with a supermarket scanner? Pres. Obama has now had his supermarket-scanner moment, claiming he doesn't know how to operate an iPod, among other popular electronic devices. Do you think the MSM will pick on this in the same way to paint a portrait of an out-of-touch president?

Addressing the graduating class at Hampton University today, PBO said:

"With iPods and iPads and Xboxes and PlayStations, -- none of which I know how to work -- information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation."

They tagged him as the high-tech “Blackberry President” before he even took office. Remember the NEWSWEAK cover “We are all socialists now”??

They DID exaggerate Bush’s scanner experience.

The scanner in question was a new model that could scan a torn bar code in several pieces.

If Obama can’t operate an iPod, why is he giving one to the Queen of England?

Look how his mind works. In his mind we are slaves of greedy white males and should spend our time studying marxism and liberationism like HE did.

And, rather inconveniently for Zero, information also becomes available outside the officially sanctioned Pravda talking points. At least until the Fairness Doctrine applies to podcasts!

“My six year old daughter has her ipod Nano all figured out save for more esoteric features like setting an alarm clock.”

Perfect illustration of what I argued in the item: “The little gizmo has been around for 10 years, is virtually ubiquitous, and let’s face it, is intuitive enough for young kids to operate.”

The truth of the GW Sr. Scanner hubbub:

The bar codes sometime get torn/smeared/stained in product transit. Previously this made them unreadable. With a new fuzzy-logic algorithm, scanners suddenly could consistently read such bars with only PART of the data they previously needed.

For this reason GW Sr. exclaims, “Well, I’ll be..! How about that..!”

But from the way they filmed it, he appears stupidly delighted by something the common Joe had long since accepted.

IT WAS ALL A FRIGGIN LIE.

The whole point of Obama's underlying distrust of these new 'gadgets' is information and everyone's potential access to it. To him, outside of his lied-to constituency and those that are naive enough to fall for his smooth-toned jive deliveries, an informed public is his natural enemy because the information these new forms of deliver offer (unchecked by government or willing-MSM censorship and steeriing) truth - something which he lies about every day. If he could, he'd take all these things away now if he can't control them or at least settle to censor everything they display.

The situations are not analogous.

An iPod is essentially a music toy. You are either into music or you are not.

Everybody in America, however, eats. Almost everybody in America has recently shopped for food at a supermarket.

George H.W.'s comment made him look elitist since he demonstrated he had not set foot in a food store for years.

Attack Obama for the warehouse-full of legitimate issues that can be used against him. Attacking him for a non-issue is like "crying wolf". After a while, Obama get a Teflon coating because people tune you out.

Barack Obama: ‘I Still Have Michael Jackson On My iPod’
He speaks about the King of Pop...

July 03, 2009

US president Barack Obama has revealed he still has all of Michael Jackson’s music on his iPod.

Obama, whose MP3 player is also known to include hits by Stevie Wonder and Jay-Z, said Jackson “will go down in history as one of our greatest entertainers”.

The president spoke about the King of Pop, who died on June 25, during an interview at the White House yesterday.

Guess What’s on the First Lady’s iPod?

Michelle Obama was both serious (addressing childhood obesity) and silly (attempting to tame the family dog) yesterday during the White House’s Take Your Children to Work Day, but the most pressing issue raised by far: What music is on her iPod? Her answer, geared toward the kids in the audience: Beyoncé, Usher, Stevie Wonder, Rihanna, and Michael Jackson, Politics Daily reports. Oh, and, “Sting, anyone? Sting? No?”
