HAMPTON, Virginia — US President Barack Obama lamented Sunday that in the iPad and Xbox era, information had become a diversion that was imposing new strains on democracy, in his latest critique of modern media.
Obama, who often chides journalists and cable news outlets for obsessing with political horse race coverage rather than serious issues, told a class of graduating university students that education was the key to progress.

He has completely lost me on this one. Ipods can be used to listen to radio programs or spoken text as well as music. Many talk show hosts left and right offer their shows for download for people who cannot listen at the time of the broadcast. Professors offer their lectures in this form for students who have to miss a class. The music storage saves having to carry around a bulky form of storage like a CD or a cassette tape, let alone an eight-track tape or a 78 rpm record. What does any of this have to do with people graduating?
The IPad? It’s a merged form of a smart phone, a mobile computer, and the IPod. Again, so what? The president of Norway ran his country on one from JFK International after the flights were canceled due to the volcano.
Playstatons and X-boxs? Was he against video arcade machines? Did he march against the Apple II when it came out? Is he aware that people in nursing homes use the Wii to keep active?
This is the strangest comment I have heard from a sitting president since Carter came on television wearing a sweater. He admits he doesn’t know how to operate any of these devices. Does he also not know their applications?

Exactly. While the other items can be viewed as toys, the iPad is a new phase of technology which will run over tyrants like him just has email etc. did others relative to photocopiers.
With my iPad (in use right now)I can publish to the world from anywhere anytime with just 2 punds of tech. That’s not a distraction to democracy, that’s a threat to tyrants like the Obama.
