Iran warship tests home-built torpedo: report

Iranian warship the Jamaran on Sunday test-fired a home-built torpedo for the first time as part of ongoing naval war games in the Gulf, state television's website reported.

"This torpedo is anti-submarine and when it is fired from the warship, it automatically hunts for the submarine and destroys it," navy commander Arya Hassani was quoted as saying.

The report said the torpedo was fired from the Iran-built Jamaran, which was deployed earlier this year. It has a displacement of around 1,400 tonnes and is equipped for electronic warfare.

On Wednesday the Islamic republic's navy began eight days of manoeuvres in the Gulf, Sea of Oman and the northern Indian Ocean covering an area of 250,000 square kilometres (around 97,000 square miles).

The drill comes weeks after a similar exercise by the elite Revolutionary Guards Corps in the Gulf and in the key oil route of Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's armed forces regularly conduct such drills, often test-firing what they say are home-built missiles.

Turn up the signal jammers to — beeber, stune,

And, watch that torpedo wheel around back to the Iranian ship, whilst the rag-heads jump over the side for the exit!

I love the smell of Napalm in the morning!

I have a hunch they got instructions from the shoe bomber, the underwear bomber and the recent NYC bomber.

Iranian warship the Jamaran on Sunday test-fired a home-built torpedo for the first time... "This torpedo is anti-submarine and when it is fired from the warship, it automatically hunts for the submarine and destroys it," navy commander Arya Hassani was quoted as saying.

“Do you mean to say that anyone holding these three papers, and without the seven others, could construct a Bruce-Partington submarine?”

“I reported to that effect to the Admiralty. But to-day I have been over the drawings again, and I am not so sure of it. The double valves with the automatic self-adjusting slots are drawn in one of the papers which have been returned. Until the foreigners had invented that for themselves they could not make the boat. Of course they might soon get over the difficulty.”

Were I the commander of an Iranian ship, I would think twice about firing an Iranian built torpedo that homes in on ships and sinks them.
