On Saturday, any number of national Republicans crapped their pants.
In the middle of the afternoon, as word twitted and texted out of the Salt Palace that three-term senator Bob Bennett had been denied re-nomination, the world changed for the powers that be in the Republican Party.
They got reminded whos in charge.
In a two-year effort that predates the tea parties and the Club for Growth, the conservatives of Utah sent the message that good enough isnt good enough. Either walk the talk or make way for someone who will.
Its RINO season and we just got a big one.
Two years ago it was Utah Congressman Chris Cannon. Two years from now it will be Utah Senator Orrin Hatch.
And on Saturday it was Bob Bennett.
He is a good and decent man, a gentleman to all he meets. But he got crosswise of history and he got crosswise of principle and after too many decades in Washington he became a man of that world.
He explained to me once his standard of legislating. Hed learned it from his father, who was also a senator from Utah. The standard was that you balanced your principles against what would get 51 votes. You got as much of your principles into something that would get passed as you could.
Which sounds nice.
But which is exactly the problem.
It bastardizes principle and adulterates it, it makes stabbing a knife six inches into the taxpayers backs better than stabbing it 12 inches into their backs. It is exactly the philosophy that has kept the Republican Party from doing its duty over the last several years. Republicans are elected by making promises to people who believe in constitutional principles, but then they govern like wannabe Democrats.George W. Bush campaigned as a fiscal conservative and gave us free pills for gramma. The GOP controlled both houses of Congress and wasted the opportunity. Bob Bennett helped give us TARP.And Utahns gave him the boot.
Which should send a clear message to the Republican Party: Stand up for whats right, or get ready to take your medicine.,p>
Yes, conservatives are mad at Democrats. Yes, the Obama Administration and the twin she devils Pelosi and Reid have wrought great difficulty for our country and our freedoms.
But that doesnt give the Republicans a free ride. They had better not believe that they are the entitled beneficiaries of this patriotic ire.
Because when they step out of line, theyll get taken down, too.
As Bob Bennett learned the hard way.
What is sweeping America is a rising tide of upset at a government that has grown too large and too intrusive, which is on our backs and in our pockets, which dictates from Washington without regard to the wishes and realities of our lives.
Any politician who will help us fight that, is our friend. Any politician who wont, is our enemy.
The tide is rising, and it will sweep away everyone who opposes it. The Democrats learned that in Massachusetts and the Republicans learned that in Utah.
And come November, the lesson will be learned all across America.
Because what happened Saturday is a proof that our Republic works, that the people are in charge, that even the biggest and richest politicians can be taken down by the will of the people. It took two years of gathering storm, but Bob Bennett fell.
Its like the school yard. You dont have to fight all the bullies, you just have to beat one. Then the others know to respect you.
Saturday was about respect. It was about Whos Your Daddy?
It was about holding elected officials to the oaths they swear and the Constitution they serve. It was about putting America back on an even keel.
It was about building momentum toward November.
This weekend we lost Bob Bennett. Soon we will lose John McCain. In November, we will lose Harry Reid and end the Pelosi speakership.
Because we are on the march.
And Saturday was a skirmish.
Saturday was a Concord Bridge, a crossing of the Delaware, a battle on the way to Yorktown.
The American people are docile. We work our jobs and raise our families, we live our lives in peace. It takes a lot to rile us up and turn us out.
But in the last couple of years weve faced an awful lot. And now were counting scalps. Weve got Bob Bennetts on our belt and were on the hunt for more.
November will be a slaughter.
And now the Republicans know to mind their Ps and Qs.
Its like the old flag says: Dont Tread On Me.
yep! as annoying as it is...it’s almost a twisted form of entertainment to see what stupid thing he will say next! Like his latest “technology is bad” speech....
He said that because “technology” puts the TRUTH to his lies...
Not that the Dems didn't try their best (worst?) with Clarence Thomas.
>We have continued to lose ground because when the left pushes they get half or more of what they want and we lose ground we need people who are going to put the left on notice and are going to push them for a change and undo their damage.
That reminds me of a saying:
“Compromise between Good and Evil always works to Evil’s benefit and Good’s detriment.”
Both parties need to wake up and understand the Tea Party is about fiscal sanity and economic issues, not political parties. Its not so much about ‘conservatives’, its about unsustainable deficits, insane federal government growth, and the economy thats teetering on the brink of collapse as I type this.
Everybody’s trying to either claim them as ‘their own’ or marginalize em. Both are big mistakes.
Since when?.....don'tcha read the MSM?
We're Republicans. We got No Plan. No Program. No Leader. No Clue. Not Sure about what we're going to do.
Going nowhere.
===================================
Unlike those smart (gag) Dems who elected that man in the WH. Now there's a group with a Plan (/snix).
The message and reality for enemies of America is being made clear!
Reprehensibly there are enemies of America and enemies of freedom in office. We The People vow to clean the sewer that is this Thug Administration and this Thug Congress. Congress declared WAR upon We The People in numerous ways. Their heinous DeathCare will become the next Holocaust and a genocide of the unborn and the elderly. This treason cannot stand and must be repealed. We seek patriots willing to defend this nation from the likes of Obama and his cohorts.
November 2nd can’t get here soon enough when we begin to take back our country from corrupt, amoral these outed enemies of freedom.
We have RINO’s for leaders. We need to oust McCain next. He had severely damaged the party.
And let's not forget Douglas Ginsberg and his pot-smoking days at Harvard!
In ‘67, Abe Fortas tried an end run-around by telling LBJ his resignation would become effective “at your (LBJ's) pleasure”, which met with a firestorm that prevented that from happening. Eventually, Harry Blackmun replaced him.
If memory serves me correctly, Clinton wanted to nominate one Kimba Woods, but met with stiff resistance (!) when her Playboy Playmnate past was uncovered (!).
I note with passing interest that it's always the Libs who cause these problems. They are not based on Constitutional principle, for sure (Ted Kennedy said after Bork's name was announced for the Court that he was prepared to oppose the nomination “on ideological grounds”).
Well, Teddy, as we know, was the baddest of the bad, but even with him, his forthrightness in saying out loud what everyone knew, but never spoke of, was a bit astounding.
This current group of "Republicans" on the Hill, obviously, has no testicular fortitude to maintain a constant battle against these far Left candidates that Obama is going to nominate, but perhaps, with a little luck, that will change after the November elections, with the arrival of a sufficient number of young Turks representing the Party.
Let's hope!

CA....
You got that right——McC’s got to go.......
Incorrect. It was Earl Warren who resigned under those circumstances in 1968. Johnson tried to put Fortas into the Chief Justiceship, but the Republicans filibustered because they were sure the next president would be Republican. Nixon put Warren Burger into that slot.
On Nixon's watch, Congress delved into Fortas' association with a crooked financier, and he resigned from the Court in disgrace. Nixon tried to replace him with Clement Haynesworth of South Carolina, but the Senate rejected him. He then tried G. Harold Carswell of Florida, but the Senate rejected him too. So Nixon went to Harry Blackmun of Minnesota, who got the job.
Then we may be about due another...
the infowarrior
Cornyn needs to be added to the 2012 list. He apparently is getting the message because he recently stated he was glad he wasn’t running in 2010.
“BENNETT LOSS WAS WARNING TO GOP”
Warning hell, it was step one. Step two will be Kentucky.
McCain will be sounding like the second coming of Ronaldus Maximus by August.
yeah... it’s kinda hard to shovel bullsh*t to the masses when the masses can “google it” and find out for themselves what bull it is....
Alas, I was a young lad of 19 when all this transpired, so the memory wasn't quite as sharp as I would have liked.
Again, thanks.
CA....
That isn't actually bad advice so long as the norm is somewhere toward the middle. Under 0bama the norm has shifted so far to the left that it has become time to re-norm, and the only politicians who survive will be the ones strong enough to do that. And the media will be battling them every step of the way.
