If Elena Kagan is confirmed on the Supreme Court, there will be no Protestants on the Supreme Court, for the first time in American history. The majority of white Americans, as well as the majority of blacks, are Protestants. Evangelical Protestantism is the fastest growing religion in America, and is attracting large numbers of formerly Catholic Hispanics.
America was founded as a European Protestant Civilization, and about 70 percent of Americans can loosely be defined as Protestants. At the time of the American Revolution, about 95 percent of Whites in America were Protestants. I am a Catholic, but some of my ancestors were Protestants who were here before the American Revolution.
The Pilgrim Fathers who founded Colonial America, as well as many of the Founding Fathers of the American Revolution, intended America to be established as a European Protestant Civilization. How would the founders of America feel today, if they heard that their descendants had handed the country that they founded, over to religious minorities?
I believe that an Evangelical Protestant should be appointed to the Supreme Court. When Harriet Miers was rejected, Bush should have nominated another Evangelical Protestant.
The first American patriotic movement was known as the American Party, which was later labelled by their enemies as the "Know Nothing" party, and was active in the 1840s and 1850s. They demanded that non-Protestant immigrants should adopt America's Protestant values, before they were granted American citizenship. And they sought to limit immigration, to ensure that their civilization was not overwhelmed by culturally alien people: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Know_Nothing
The bashing of WASPS is a favorite past-time for many Americans, including some WASPS. It is common for non-Protestant white ethnics (especially Irish Catholics) to whine about how horrible WASPS are, for discriminating against their ancestors. But most white ethnics are never grateful to WASPS, for creating a civilization that their ancestors could not create for themselves. That is why their ancestors moved to this Protestant nation...duh!
It is time to end the WASP-bashing, and put an evangelical Protestant on the Supreme Court. And thank you WASPS for creating America - the greatest civilization that the world has ever known! Where would we be without you?
AA for the SC, NFL and NBA.
Breyer is a defacto WASP
That woman is about as “Catholic” as my dog. Please don’t insult devote, practicing Catholics with being lumped in with these In-name-only, Catholics who only use that religious title as a means to an end for which they will pay for dearly in eternity.
Where is the voice on the court for the disabled and the Asian-Americans? No Justice, No Peace !!!!!
No, it’s unconstitutional. And nobody ever said the SCOTUS was supposed to be representative of the country.
The NFL and NBA do have affirmative action:
Roughing the QB and the 3-point line.
Correct. SCOTUS isn’t intended to resemble America.
But they must be able to empathize with a single mother, etc.
I wonder how she views Israel?
You are an obvious bigot. You did not list a “mentally challenged individual” as a court member.
>>>>That woman is about as Catholic as my dog
Kagan is Jewish, and not Catholic.
How about affirmative action for constitutionalists.
How could any members who are pro Roe Vs Wade be Catholic?
“Evangelical Protestantism is the fastest growing religion in America, and is attracting large numbers of formerly Catholic Hispanics.”
You know, this is a good way to make enemies of allies. How about no. Protestants gave us R v Wade.
Empathy isn’t in their job. They’re supposed to interpret the law as it relates to the Constitution. If something is unconstitutional it’s unconstitutional and therefore should go away, no matter how many empathy receivers it might inconvenience. If we want it bad enough we can always pass an Amendment.
>>>>No, its unconstitutional. And nobody ever said the SCOTUS was supposed to be representative of the country
Protestants make up 70 percent of America’s population. Are you trying to tell me that there are no Protestants who are qualified to be Supreme Court Justices, from that 70 percent? What is unconstitutional, is the religious profiling that is excluding Protestants from the Supreme Court.
I didn’t say anything of the sort. I’m simply pointing out that religious tests for federal office (including SCOTUS) are EXPLICITY unconstitutional and nobody said SCOTUS was supposed to represent the country in any way. If you can prove that profiling charge sue, it’s unconstitutional, if you can’t prove it then you should probably stop throwing around silly words you can’t prove.
“No religious test shall be given.” It’s in the Constitution.

But Protestants are a major force in the pro-life movement. Look...I admire Scalia, Alito, Thomas and Roberts, just as much as anyone here. But Catholics are not the only people capable of being pro-life Justices. The appointment of an evangelical would be good for religious diversity.
