Theres a lot of political ferment and discontent out there, a sense that the political universe may be reordering itself in unpredictable ways. And over the weekend, it claimed a prominent victim.
SALT LAKE CITY Its on. The first incumbent of the 2010 election year crashed and burned Saturday, and theres ample cause for alarm for officeholders everywhere.
There was no personal scandal, no whiff of corruption, no silver bullet here.
Republican Sen. Robert Bennett was one of the most powerful and likable members of the Senate, he diligently protected Utahs interests from his post in GOP leadership and he funneled millions of dollars back to his state as an appropriator.
But Utah Republicans didnt care. In fact, thats exactly why they tossed him out Saturday in a humbling second ballot vote at the state party convention.
By finishing third in balloting in the Utah GOP convention, Bennett, a three-term senator, was denied even a spot on the ballot in the partys primary. Thats gotta hurt. It also has to put a helluva scare into Bennetts colleagues in Washington.

Yeah... Tea parties are stupid and do nothing....Uh Huh...
No he just fundamentally betrayed the principals his constituents sent him to DC to uphold. What part of "People's Representative" does the Establishment Media clown posse not understand?

“It also has to put a helluva scare into Bennetts colleagues in Washington.”
I haven’t been this happy about politics in a good long time.
Yeah, like Sherrod Brown and Sheldon Whitehouse are moderate democrats!
A “partisan” race. OH NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
He says that, like it is a bad thing.
Where is ACORN when you need them?
“partisan” and “divisive” - Republicans stand by their principles
“bipartisan” and “reaching across the aisle” - Republicans roll over and play dead
Principled and idealistic - Dems shoving socialism down the throats of the people.
Independent minded - Blue dog democrats barking once or twice before obeying Pelosi's dog whistle and heeling.
Voters are intent in creating a party in opposition to the AMrxist Monster now running Congress and the Oval Office.
They have had it with Democrat Lite.
Yes - good additions!
Under Bush, Justice Department took partisan turn - JAY BOOKMAN
This drivel is pretty much what I would expect from the Atlanta Journal of Communists
Well, DUH! We’ve kind of had it with consensus Senatus, especially given who’s made it up. Or, again, is that two thoughts in a row and beyond normal liberal/progressive thought processes?
