Drilling Oil Execs For Answers

The BP Spill: Tuesday on Capitol Hill, oil executives were subjected to the Senate's latest show trial. Senators did not say the accident in federal waters was a federal responsibility or that nature spills more oil every day.

The morning hearing by the Energy and Natural Resources Committee chaired by Sen. Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico and the afternoon session before California Sen. Barbara Boxer's Environmental and Public Works Committee prove White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel's dictum that a good crisis is a terrible thing to waste — especially when your goal is exploiting the Deepwater Horizon disaster to scapegoat oil execs and the shutting down of needed domestic oil exploration.

Certainly BP and the oil companies bear responsibility for the maintenance and safety of offshore oil rigs, but drilling in deep water is no walk in the park. Accidents have, do and will happen again. Ignored in this accident is the federal government's responsibility to react and contain it.

Unlike Katrina, where disputes and confusion quickly arose between federal, state and local authorities over who should have done what and when, the handling of this accident in federal waters was a clear federal responsibility. It was the failure of this administration to implement a 1994 plan that made the situation far worse.

If they aren’t going to participate in the emergency response, at least this government could wait till it’s under control before beginning the show trial.

"Ignored in this accident is the federal government's responsibility to react and contain it.

I have wondered what the feds are doing about the leak.

Is "commander zero" just letting it go so as to tarnish the oil industry and further his marxist "cap and trade" scheme? That's my opinion.

The government doesn’t do anything these days but point fingers.

They can make fun of Sarah Palin but they can’t stop a lunatic from setting “shop” in Time Square.

To answer your question,no there is no way(short of precision nuking which is an oxymoron BTW)of closing this thing up.

Don't know if it's feasible or an option but I know that this "nuking" thing started with the discredited "sorcha faal" site along with suicide attacks by nork frogmen.

Don't know anything about deepwater drilling but "commander zero" has thrown up his hands and said "It's BP's problem" purely for political reasons..

What are the feds doing to plug the well?

They’re having a meeting with the execs in DC on whose responsible.

I believe that either something drastic has to be done or the Gulf coast is screwed worse then Katrina.

Two things I noticed:

1. The well blew up at 9:05pm, yet the Coast Guard did not issue a call to assist until after 11:00pm. Why the (in my opinion) excessive delay?

2. The response from the federal agencies took days to happen, seemingly leaving activities to the various state agencies that had no responsibility or capability.

3. The feds have refused to allow help from several outside groups - one being a couple of oil-skimmer ships from Holland, on the specious claim that only taking out 98% of the oil during their operation is non-effective. Thank you, EPA!

Here is an interesting link about everybody’s responsibility. Apparently there were 4 private fire fighting organizations that were not coordinating effectively, as well as the Coast Guard there at the same time. Halliburton says they were told to remove a mud plug before continuing their work which is not the usual order of things. The link does not say who ordered the plug removed.
