ANCHORAGE, Alaska The fight over oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge heated up Tuesday over the possibility that a new management plan could put the refuge and its billions of barrels of crude off-limits for good.
At issue is the refuge's 1.5-million-acre coastal plain and whether an updated plan would designate the oil-rich area as wilderness.
The coastal plain believed to contain an estimated 11 billion barrels of recoverable oil has been a battleground for decades between environmentalists who don't want drilling and oil companies and Alaska officials that see a large, untapped resource that could ease the country's dependence on foreign oil.

Precisely.....
Surely there’s trillions of dollars to be spent and barrels of oil to be gotten in Suadi Arabia. There’s no need to drill in Alaska, or anywhere else in the continental U.S., for that matter! /heavy sarcasm
and the average American citizen who is sick of shelling out $800 billion to tyrants overseas for oil just so trust fund baby elites can crow about their "Environmental sensitivity".
How long before we are 100% dependent on our enemies for oil?
Brilliant.
There is no such thing as "for good".
Only if we sit back and do nothing about it.
If I was governor of Alaska I would start the drilling process now. P!ss on the washington d.c. based corrupt, hate America cabal, aka demorats.
Wouldn’t surprise me in the least.....
Pat Garrett of Chugiak, a licensed social worker who has visited Kaktovik, the only village inside the refuge, said she opposes any oil and gas development in the refuge. She said she was worried about the impact on polar bears, which increasingly rely on the refuge’s coastal plain for denning because of shrinking sea ice.
“Include that area. Protect that area. We know what is happening to the polar bears,” Garrett said.
...and just what is happening to polar bears? Not to mention sea ice. Bet you can’t even come close. Truth serum anyone? A licensed social worker. Does that license include polar bears as potential clients. Never mind.
Then the enviro-wackos need to put their money where their mouths are.
They need to offer themselves up to be turned into bio-diesel. Soylent Green baby! Actually, it’s a two-fer. We solve the oil problem AND get rid of the enviro-wackos.
I would suggest tht the new E-W Bio-diesel(tm) only be used in Government Motors vehicles for two reasons:
1. They are already crappy running vehicles, so with the addition of crappy fuel, there wouldn’t be a noticible difference, &
2. I wouldn’t want to ruin a non-bailout vehicle.

I like the way you think.
You have to wonder how much OPEC oil money is being funneled via third party cutouts to the West’s einvormental activist groups to make sure we stay hook on foreign oil ..
Now now..
They’re our allies and partners, yaknow. ;-)
Bingo. I'd announce publicly that the leases were being auctioned tomorrow to any interested competent firm. When the Feds object I'd dare them to send Federal troops in to stop it.
Nothing should be off limits for good.
Jerks
