Woman raped by census worker
Fox 59 ^ | 5/11/2010 | Kjerstin Ramsing

Pekin, Ind. - A U.S. Census worker has been charged with rape and burglary, after two women in southern Indiana claim they were attacked. One of the victims was a 21 year-old physically handicapped woman. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, he had been with the agency for two weeks.

The attack occurred Saturday morning in Pekin, Indiana in Washington County.

Police said the man broke in while a mother and daughter slept and attacked them. According to investigators, the mother had taken a mild sleeping pill. The man, identified as 39 year-old Daniel Miller, was arrested following the incident. He said he worked for the government.

Four days before the attack, neighbors in the area say they saw Miller in the area on census business. The victim told police Miller had asked about their census information. She said they had already submitted the form. She also told police that Miller stuck around and tried to get more details.

Storms are rolling through Indiana. Stay up to date with the NEW Fox59 Interactive Radar

"It's unbelievable that somebody could do something like that and not have a conscience and worry about it," said resident Debbie Bishop.

Miller's apartment is located right across the road from a middle school. When a news crew knocked on the door of his apartment, another man answered. He did not want to go on camera or be identified, however, he did say Miller had two daughters of his own.

Miller was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, held on a $150,000 bond.

There are about 635,000 U.S. Census workers currently going door to door counting Americans who did not return their surveys. They will carry white badges with blue writing. The badges do not have photos. Census workers should also be carrying black canvas shoulder bags and brochures printed in 51 languages. If asked, the census takers are supposed to give you a supervisor's number to call.

How would this information have been any help whatsoever to the rape victims of an actual census worker? If called, his supervisor would only have confirmed his legitimate employment.

FWIW, from the Census Dept's website....

BACKGROUND CHECK FAQ

All applicants for temporary Census jobs go through a pre-appointment name check against the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Justice Information Services Division’s Name Index. This means that the FBI database is searched to see if it contains a criminal history record file that matches an applicant’s name, date of birth, and social security number. This criminal history record file contains records of individuals that have been arrested and fingerprinted.

They're supposed to do it. I wonder how often it really gets done.

Either way, what a creep.

We got one today, and we DID return our survey. Although we didn’t necessarily fill it all out the way they expected.

As I recall, the badge he had around his neck was white with RED printing.

Doesn’t matter, I sent his a$$ packing in short order.

I’m sure we’ll get another one soon.

Ignore all census workers at your door.

If you believe you must talk with them, talk from behind a locked and braced door, with a firearm ready.

Agree with your statements completely.
If not specifically expecting someone or a delivery, don't answer the door.
One doesn't need to unlock their house to anyone not holding a valid search warrant.
What a horribly tragic crime. Very sad news indeed.

Come on, the constitution allows for a census, not the extra questions but it allows for a census, if you didn’t mail the forms back, you’ll get a knock on the door. There are a handful or more Freepers that are doing this - we don’t have current jobs, or it’s supplementing what we do have.

Not every census worker is a rapist, and I’ll tell you it’s just as scary for us to knock on doors not knowing what/who is behind the door. It by no means pays enough for the what is potentially out there.

I sent my form back. Haven’t had any visitors and they are doing my neighborhood now.

It was addressed to current resident. And that was me. Figured they don’t need my name.

I put down the number of people living here and for race I put American.

And I’m working for the census. LOL And yes I ask the questions but if they don’t want to answer that’s fine. Just give me a number that’s all that is required.

The Census is bogus. It is just a collection of information to be used later to diminish freedom of the citizenry.

There is nothing benign about the Obama junta and its czars and representitives, including you.Mussolini had conservatives do his biding to give his regime an air of legitimacy. Obama has none.

You represent Obama? You represent the enemy who conducts political and demographic warfare on the country.
