It’s only a 15% reduction in salt, and Heinz is free to do what they wish with their product. Since they weren’t forced to change it, this isn’t “Nanny State” (which I vehemently oppose).
BTW, Heinz ketchup is my favorite brand, and I settled on it long ago as best tasting. Consumers who don’t like this change may purchase something else.
Hey, look what this strategy did for Coca-Cola 20 or so years ago. Oh yeah, that’s right...
Oh well, at least this move, coupled with the fact that the product carries John F’n Kerry’s wife’s name, makes it a no doubter that I’ll be buying Hunts or Brooks or anything but Heinz.
Two words — New Coke
Time to stockup.
Is anybody else thinking New Coke?

Fries haven't tasted the same since they stopped getting fried in beef fat.
Just do like the veggie companies do, offer both, the the consumer decide.
by lowering the salt content in an effort to appeal to more health-conscious consumers
That’s a BOLDFACED LIE!
If true they would be offering a new Heinz Diet or Heinz Lite Ketchup to go alongside the classic recipe. In this case they are scrapping the original. Clearly the Gubbermint is behind it.
So now I guess Pittsburghers will just slop lousy tasting diet ketchup on their 700 calorie sandwiches from Primanti Brothers....
The only thing I get from Indiana in New Mexico.
Great tomato products.
I stopped buying Heinz products before the 2004 elections. There’s plenty of other good stuff out there.
There is a new family of patented flavoring agents, a product of DNA research, that work by blocking or enhancing receptors on taste buds. The big food companies are rapidly getting on board with this stuff, which is added in such tiny amounts that it is not listed separately in the ingredients panel. Nestle, Kraft, and Campbell’s are signed up, Heinz may have gone that way, too. The FDA is allowing the big food manufacturers to lump this additive in with “flavorings”.
Just type “Senomyx” into your browser, to learn more.
Meanwhile, Hunts is getting rid of HFCS and making yummy ketchup.
‘Health conscious consumers’ probably do not use much ketchup - Heinz will lose its long time customers if they mess with the recipe.
My stockpile list continues to grow as everyday items will soon be VERBOTEN in what was once America:
Ammo (always!)
Gold & Silver
Cigarettes (for bartering)
Toilet Paper
Garden Seeds
Coffee
Sugar
Salt
Light bulbs
Yeast
Fish Oil
Lard
Toys for my future Grandkids (Fast-Food Kids’ Meals Banned)
Ketchup
This is stupid. Everything in moderation works for normal people with common sense.
I WILL NOT play the lib’s games. I have always enjoyed Heinz ketchup for most of my life, but they, and Obama’s filthy tribe, can take their products and stuff them where the sun doesn’t shine.
