Gov. Chris Christie: 'This is who I am'
By ANDY BARR | 5/14/10 11:04 AM EDT
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Thursday opened up on a reporter in a news conference who challenged the Republicans tone, telling the reporter that he must be the thinnest-skinned guy in America.
The reporter was inquiring about a contentious school voucher bill the governor is trying to push through the state Legislature.
Governor, do you think this sort of confrontational tone can increase your odds in getting this through the Legislature? the reporter asked.
After identifying the reporter by name, Christie responded: "You must be the thinnest-skinned guy in America.
If you think that's a confrontational tone, then you should really see me when I'm pissed, he said. That's not confrontational. I love when people say they don't want to have argument, that's what we were sent here for."

I’m pleasantly surprised by Christie so far. I was concerned since it’s NJ, that he’d be another Christie Todd Whitman RINO. So far that’s not the case.

I love when people say they don't want to have argument, that's what we were sent here for. I wish our side in Washington understood and practiced that. Admittedly they behaved that way when the Health-care fight was on, but I think that was mostly because they feared the pitchforks and torches.

I was on a plane arriving in NY recently and had the pleasure of sitting near/talking to a few people from NJ. I told them I am from CT and watching NJ and Gov. Christie with great interest and that I thought many across the country were doing same. Then I bravely asked, “do you love him as much as we do?” And it was incredible... not only do they love him, but others all around us seemed to hear and want to join in... and before I knew it we had people from all over the tri-state area in several rows all giving resounding thumbs up to our conversation and to Christie, and then we were congratulating the NJ passengers on the wisdom of the people who voted him in! It was a great plane ride and if this small subset of passengers means anything, Christie is DEFINITELY being watched and admired by many! Go NJ!!!

Let's be brutally honest here. When you have a guy like this in government, it actually helps that he's something of a fat slob. Clearly he isn't pathologically fixated on superficialities and appearances like most of the phonies who run for public office.
Unfortunately, this is why he doesn't stand a chance in national politics.

Last night I saw an ad petitioning viewers to call Chris Cristie and ask him to stop cutting funding for public education.
The add featured a washed-out image of the typical gray-haired, “over-worked” teacher sitting at her kitchen table with a look of utter dispair on her face.
I’m assuming the ad is an attempt to preserve the teacher union’s cadillac retirement plans.
Anyone seeing these ads?

FTA: Blunt, direct, maybe you could just say honest and refreshing, Christie said to the reporter. Maybe I could see that in your paper tomorrow.
Don't hold your breath, Governor.
...he doesn't stand a chance in national politics.
At least he's got good hair. That seems to count more than BMI, probably because it shows more in the cameras.

You might think so, but New Jersey hasn't been a major player on the national political scene in years -- if ever. Voters in "flyover country" have a natural (and understandable) suspicion of anyone who comes from a heavily urbanized place in the Northeast like this.
I'll cite Rudy Giuliani's abysmal failure in the 2008 GOP primary campaign as perfect evidence of this.

Imagine a debate on national security between the Muslim pansie and Christie.
Before even describing the reasons why, he could simply ask; "Who do you think radical Islam Muslim terrorists fear more? (long pause, deafening applause and standing ovation would follow).
"A hard working proud to be American like myself. Or a guy that gives Miranda rights to terrorists, hugs our enemies, bows to people, and apologizes for America's greatness?"

he has a real shot as he took over the classic liberal sinking ship. If he makes it sail again or even float he is a hero to all.... it will be a hard argument against his conservative policies should he prevail. I think he will as he has the right answers. Now implement them. He should be able to as the state was on its knees begging!
California next?
