The sound of somene breaking down my door or window getting into my home with me here is akin to a warning. I adopt the LOW defense i.e. launch on warning. Depending on where I or my wife may be in the home, anyone of a number of shouting firearms come into play but nothing smaller than 40 cal.
Seems like the sound of a double tap from my 45 auto would attract enough attention but OK I will yell to.
Fifteen or twenty years ago, the office where I worked was burgled after midnight. It was a free standing brick and block building with an alarm system, including door/window intrusion and motion detector alarms that auto dialed the police.
The burglars avoided all that by cutting a small hole in the wall next to the front door. The wall was not reinforced so it was easy for them. The exterior and interior walls were dry wall (sheet rock), IIRC.
They evaded the motion detectors by cutting similar holes in the walls of several of the offices, and that’s how they went from one office to the next.
The holes were so small, we were amazed that anyone could slide through. But they obviously did, and as far as I know, they never were caught.
Double tap the head shot just to be sure!
I live on two acres of land, my house is 135’ down my driveway, and there’s no neighbor closer than the length of a football field away. My screams won’t be heard; my gunshots damn well will.
How about those of us in rural settings? I live alone on 44 acres. My house is 500+ feet from the ‘farm to market’ road. I could scream until I was blue in the face and my horses would be the only ones to notice. LOL!
However, my property is nicely fenced with a locked iron gate and a gettaway car cannot invade.
bear in mind a Bic lighter turns a can of wasp spray or WD 40 into a ferocious personal flame thrower.
the can will NOT explode. try different flammable sprays ... ;-*
also a dry powder fire extinguisher is a good option in a situation where a gun is unavailable to you. if an attacker aspirates the powder they WILL be temporarily incapacitated and then you can stop the attack and end the threat by beating the living sh!t out of their knees an elbows with the extinguisher cannister.
Your neighbor across the street may get upset with you over that first shot. If you HAVE to fire a warning shot, be aware of where it will go. Aiming low is better.
I’d be screaming “die mother f@#!^#&^@!!!!” as I emptied my .45 at him (or them).
“Betten pushed for an ordinance requiring good locks and reinforced door frames, hinges and doors on Overland Park homes.”
So...the solution is more laws? Right...
Hey, Betten! You are an idiot.
Try 1911 instead!
> Why do “professionals” advise everyone to have a fire extinguisher and smoke detectors but no guns, when the chances of a violent attack are much higher than that of a house fire.
Not entirely true. Twenty some years back, a burglar broke into my kitchen by pushing a large hunting knife into the door frame and breaking out the lock and everything. I heard the noise and investigated, and was stabbed with the same knife, which he left behind stuck in my shoulder.
When the police arrived, the Chief asked me if I owned a gun; I told him I had a shotgun; then he asked me why I didn’t use it; and ended up telling me that I should have used it and to never investigate noises in the night without it. I live in Tonawanda, NY.
Lock and load ,, remain calm ,,, take close aim ,,, squeeze the trigger gently ,,,, call 911 to report a failed breakin attempt .
12 gauge yells real loud
Yeah, that’ll work when my nearest neighbor is 250 yards down the road through dense woods. Asshat. When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
