TARP traps GOP incumbents (as it should)
Politico ^ | 5/15/10 | Jim Hohman

Utah Sen. Bob Bennett’s defeat Saturday underscored what many Republicans already know to be true: Their 2008 “yes” vote for the Troubled Asset Relief Program is no asset to their campaigns.

The Wall Street bailout has turned into a millstone for many Republicans who voted for the $700 billion fund. The vote is proving to be a crushing burden in GOP primaries for those carrying it.

Nowhere was it clearer than in Utah, where, as Bennett pleaded Saturday for the chance to serve a fourth term, a smattering of delegates at the Utah Republican convention serenaded him with the chant “TARP, TARP, TARP.”

“There are so many votes that have overshadowed it because of the health care battle and the cap-and-trade battle,” Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips said. “But that was the initial fuse. So it’s a big deal.”

Had it with you “moderates”. We did it your way and we got the hardest, most radical left wing government in US history.

We will be living with the damage from this Administration for DECADES.

To me, it is the equivalent of the first shot fired at Ft.Sumter...Ordinarily I’d say that it was Concord or such, but our fight now is with our fellow ‘citizens’, and it will be just as serious as it was eventually with the British....

We The People are scouring the filth out of our government regardless of Party. Arrogance, corruption, greed, and treating their Constituents like morons will be their downfall.

Their reign is over.

Nope. Tarp wasn’t a “stimulus”. It was a payoff to the chicoms and euro-weenies.

Paul Ryan voted for it. I do not want to get rid of him. Joe Wilson also voted for it.

I’d be happy to replace either of those cream puffs with a principled conservative.

Admittedly my memory is not what it used to be, but I thought the TARP vote in the Senate was something like 98-0.

Funny thing is that my chosen congressional candidate was tossed overboard by the NRCC in 08 after voting against the bailouts twice is now leading the race to retake the seat he lost.

Paul Ryan is a true conservative. He is destined for great things and is the only one that has a coherent plan to attack our deficit problems. Ryan was part of the GOP leaedership that felt obligated to support Bush and the TARP. Boehner and Cantor did likewise.

FINAL VOTE RESULTS FOR ROLL CALL 681

Senate vote on TARP Note: Bernie Sanders voted against the bill.

TARP financial shenanigans used tax dollars for billion dollar bailouts; who knows what else the Congress did, to protect their elite status?

The $700B TARP Bailout is now being called, "A MASTERFUL DECEIT." Gangster Government blanketed Wall Street with billions and billions of tax dollars with virtually no accountability. If HR 1424 was a 'MASTERFUL DECEIT' then CONGRESS didn't do its job.

TITLE I—TROUBLED ASSETS RELIEF PROGRAM (required Congressional Oversight sections listed)
Sec. 101. Purchases of troubled assets.
Sec. 102. Insurance of troubled assets.
Sec. 103. Considerations.
Sec. 104. Financial Stability Oversight Board.
Sec. 105. Reports.
Sec. 107. Contracting procedures.
Sec. 108. Conflicts of interest.
Sec. 111. Executive compensation and corporate governance.
Sec. 116. Oversight and audits.
Sec. 118. Funding.
Sec. 119. Judicial review and related matters.
Sec. 121. Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program.
Sec. 125. Congressional Oversight Panel.
Sec. 127. Cooperation with the FBI.
Sec. 129. Disclosures on exercise of loan authority.

In HR 1424, there are enough rules, regs and CONGRESSIONAL OVERSIGHT REQUIRED that Not One Thin Dime should have been 'misspent.' So if anything crooked did go on, Congress should look in a mirror. They dropped the ball -- again. And the same Gangster Government is bailing out Europe, and ruining our healthcare.

============================================

Rush read an essay by a U of Illinois professor emeritus stating that the Obama administration is viewed as an "occupying force from outside the US" ........whose cultural and political values are entirely foreign to most Americans.

Our laws, and the rights we thought were inviolate, have no meaning or consequence to Obama and his Demolition Squad. The rights of American citizens have taken a back seat to the advancement of their crass political ambitions, goals and careers.

Americans are reduced to second-class status.......seen merely as workhorses to be beaten into submission, to come up with the taxes these insatiable occupiers require to advance their alien goals.

Notice that Obama and his Demolition Squad spend most of their workday perfecting their "act"....... trying to make Americans think they're "harmless."

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of these GOP traders?

Excerpt:

The high discomfort level surrounding the issue became clear before most campaigns even began to take shape this year. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), for one, awkwardly sought to distance himself from TARP in February, when he told his local paper that Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke misled him about how the money would be spent.

The former Republican presidential nominee, who famously suspended his campaign to address the financial crisis, asserted that he believed the program’s aim was to avert the housing meltdown.

Former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, who is now waging a vigorous primary challenge from the right, pounced on McCain’s comments. So did Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), who called McCain “cowardly” for “just trying to reinvent history.”
