Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle, a Republican, signed legislation Wednesday that will allow state officials to ignore repeated requests for President Barack Obama’s birth certificate. Why? The state has been overwhelmed with requests for the document — the stack of queries through March measures 13 inches high — and the demand is burning up staff time.

It is amazing that more than a year after the president took office, the “birthers” are still alive and kicking, trying to prove that Obama wasn’t born in the United States and is thus ineligible to be president. Nevermind the proof that he was born in Hawaii, like his Hawaiian birth certificate. Birthers say it’s not the “legitimate” birth certificate, even though Hawaiian officials, including the Republican governor, say it is. The birthers also dismiss the fact that two Honolulu newspapers printed birth announcements shortly after he was born. Anyone, after all, could have submitted those announcements.

It is not even the fact of whether he was born in America or not. His father is not from here and that right there disqualifies him to hold the highest office in the land.


Where in the Constitution does it say that? Or where in any law of the United States does it say that your father has to be from here in order to be a natural born citizen?
The 14th Amendment to the Constitution says that “all persons BORN or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”
“Born citizens” can be president and “naturalized” citizens cannot.

Yep. Nevermind it because it has yet to be seen.

Birthers say it’s not the “legitimate” birth certificate, even though Hawaiian officials, including the Republican governor, say it is.

Oh? The governor can look at his records, but we can't? I want equal protection under the law, that some usurper isn't living at 1600 PA Ave. on my dime.

Nancy lied. The GOP let her. The GOP didn’t want this term because of all the bad “Bush’s fault” fallout and they knew the housing failure and economic crisis was looming. They didn’t want it on their watch. They gave us McLame who was bound to fail. Then they gave us some unknown woman with a quirky voice and skeletons that should have shaken the conservative base. What the GOP didn’t count on was so many who looked past all the real and false skeletons and fell in love with Sarah. That scared the GOP so they shut her up and helped the RATS spread lies about her. That’s how he got on the ballot, won, and won’t be taken out of office without a serious civilian demand. The GOP is more guilty than the RATs in this disaster.

Does this newspaper in Las Vegas publish births?

If it does, does anyone know what is the source of the births that they list? That is, does the list come ONLY directly from hospitals?

Or, do the births listed in the paper come from a Las Vegas or a Nevada government agency?

Can a parent---on his own---present his child's birth to the newspaper if the child was not born in a Las Vegas hospital? Thanks.

“Born citizens” can be president and “naturalized” citizens cannot.

Therefore, if a naturalized citizen tries to run in '12, he/she will be refused a place on the ballot. If he/she sues as an injured party with standing, demanding that, all candidates MUST prove their US birth beyond doubt.

0bagger will have no problem showing his long form as others must show ORIGINAL BCs, right?

That's precisely why he'll not dare to run in '12, proving that the "nutty birthers" were right about their crazy theory. An aide could have put that theory to sleep in a matter of hours without 0b0z0 scarifying any golf time.

Obama should be removed by the Democrats. Republicans removed Nixon when he became a national liability. It is the Democrats’ turn to clean out the White House - he is their responsibility.

I think the real problem will be with his Indonesian adoption and repatriation. He may have kept his Indonesian citizenship for years after his return, which would tear the knickers on "natural-born citizen". Hence the interest in his travels to e.g. Pakistan. If he had an Indonesian passport ..... game over.

Exactly. I think he really was born in Hawaii, and I think having one American citizen as a parent is more than enough to make him a "natural born citizen." However, his school records in Indonesia list his name as "Barry Soetero," his nationality as "Indonesian" and his religion as "Muslim." This is a strong indication that Obama was legally adopted by Lolo Soetero, thus losing citizenship in the US.

A note to this effect may have been made on his Hawaii long form birth certificate, or there may be other info on the long form that would prove embarassing to Obama. This could be the real reason why he's spent millions to keep it away from public view.

One of the many reasons why Republican controlled state legislatures need to pass laws requiring certified copies of the long form birth certificate for presidential and congressional candidates to appear on the ballot, starting in 2012.

If they do it, Obama won't have any choice. Either he produces his long form birth certificate, or he doesn't run for re-election.

Let’s not forget Zero was (is?) an Indonesian citizen. He does not dispute that fact and there is an official document stating his Indonesian citizenship (with his religion being listed as Islam).
That alone makes him ineligible no matter where he was hatched.

We're still facing a constitutional crisis, eventually.

If it is shown Obama achieved the office by fraud, what becomes of the laws and E.O.'s he signed?

This may be a way of breaking the citizenship requirement in ways pleasing to the eyes glowing and blinking out in the dark.

Who knows! My personal opinion is that he is a natural born citizen but my opinion is open to challenge.
It depends on which interpretation of the laws of the land one supports.
The following is from the Wikipedia entry on “Natural Born Citizen of the United States”: The law of the land 8 U.S.C. § 1403, which became law in 1937, retroactively conferred citizenship on individuals born within the Canal Zone on or after February 26, 1904, and on individuals born in the Republic of Panama on or after that date who had at least one U.S. citizen parent employed by the U.S. government or the Panama Railway Company; 8 U.S.C. § 1403 was cited in Judge Alsup’s 2008 ruling, described below. A paper by former Solicitor General Ted Olson and Harvard Law Professor Laurence H. Tribe published in March 2008 opined that McCain was eligible for the Presidency. In September 2008 U.S. District Judge William Alsup stated “obiter” in his ruling that it is “highly probable” that McCain is a natural born citizen from birth by virtue of 8 U.S.C. § 1401, although he acknowledged the alternative possibility that McCain became a natural born citizen retroactively, by way of 8 U.S.C. § 1403.
These views have been criticized by Gabriel J. Chin, Professor of Law at the University of Arizona, who argues that McCain was at birth a citizen of Panama and was only retroactively declared a born citizen under 8 U.S.C. § 1403, because at the time of his birth and with regard to the Canal Zone the Supreme Court’s Insular Cases overruled the Naturalization Act of 1795, which would otherwise have declared McCain a U.S. citizen immediately at birth. The US Foreign Affairs Manual states that children born in the Panama Canal Zone at certain times became U.S. nationals without citizenship. It also states in general that “it has never been determined definitively by a court whether a person who acquired U.S. citizenship by birth abroad to U.S. citizens is a natural born citizen”. In Rogers v. Bellei the Supreme Court only ruled that “children born abroad of Americans are not citizens within the citizenship clause of the 14th Amendment”, and didn’t elaborate on the natural born status.”

However Indonesia does not allow dual-citizenship.
A U.S. citizen may acquire foreign citizenship by marriage, or a person naturalized as a U.S. citizen may not lose the citizenship of the country of birth.

U.S. law does not mention dual nationality or require a person to choose one citizenship or another. Also, a person who is automatically granted another citizenship does not risk losing U.S. citizenship. However, a person who acquires a foreign citizenship by applying for it may lose U.S. citizenship. In order to lose U.S. citizenship, the law requires that the person must apply for the foreign citizenship voluntarily, by free choice, and with the intention to give up U.S. citizenship.
It is extremely rare for a minor child to ever lose US citizenship until they reach the age of majority.
