Elena Kagan Princeton thesis: ‘Sad’ that U.S. socialist movement imploded
The Daily Caller ^ | 05/21/2010 | Jon Ward

Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan’s undergraduate thesis at Princeton University in 1981 was mostly a clinical analysis of the socialist movement in the United States, but in her conclusion she expressed disappointment that “labor radicalism” had failed to gain political prominence.

Kagan, in her 130-page thesis, titled “To the Final Conflict: Socialism in New York City, 1900-1933,” sought to explain “why the growing and confident American socialist movement of the Progressive Era suddenly fell apart.”

Kagan’s thesis, in the end, was that infighting ultimately did in the movement.

“Through its own internal feuding, then, the [Socialist Party] exhausted itself forever and further reduced labor radicalism in New York to the position of marginality and insignificance from which it has never recovered,” Kagan wrote. “The story is a sad but also a chastening one for those who, more than half a century after socialism’s decline, still wish to change America.”

Of course she's qualified. There's no reason in the world to keep this woman from a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land. /s

Maybe we can trade her to Russia for a case of vodka.

And people said that the Right was overreacting when pictures came out of the Socialist texts in the Obama White House library:

"Maybe we can trade her to Russia for a case of vodka."

Do you think we can get a whole case?

To be honest, I'd give them a case to take her...but if we can get anything in trade, all the better. But let her go someplace she'll feel more at home.

Well, if we just offered to give he away for free they'd suspect something. but between you and me, I'd be willing to negotiate down...way down.

But let her go someplace she'll feel more at home.

That's the problem: she feels right at home in San Francisco, which used to be a glorious city by the bay (I still remember KSFO's exquisite theme song about it). Personally, I look forward to the new Speaker demanding that big gavel she had and making her hand it over on national TV in prime time and then turning the cameras and watching her trudge up to her new back-bench seat. No words needed, just the pix.

Here are a few selected FReeper comments to date:

Chief Justice Roberts:

Kagan Asked Court to ‘Embrace Theory of First Amendment That Would Allow Censorship Not Only of Radio and Television Broadcasts, But Pamphlets and Posters’

In another article, titled “Regulation of Hate Speech and Pornography After R.A.V,” she writes, “I take it as a given that we live in a society marred by racial and gender inequality, that certain forms of speech perpetuate and promote this inequality, and that the un-coerced disappearance of such speech would be cause for great elation.”
Solicitor General Elena Kagan, President Barack Obama’s nominee to replace retiring Justice John Paul Stevens on the Supreme Court, helped craft President Bill Clinton’s political strategy for sustaining his veto of the partial-birth abortion ban in 1997. As a result of Clinton’s successful veto that year, the ban was not enacted until 2003, when it was signed by President George Bush.
I can settle the question for everyone on the site.(Harvard Connections, you know.) Kagan is gayer than Christmas in Port-au-Prince.

She’s in the back of the closet, just like Barney Frank was until he was outed and heroically made a virtue out of being a god-curséd sodomite SOB, as well as a crook.

Now, about her hard-core, real-orders-from-the-Kremlin-belong-to-a-cell, commie family. Dad was a big time commie union infiltrator.

Mommie was a commie.

Bro still is a big-time commie.

These Kagans are NYC commies from the 1930’s, 1940’s, type of people. Elena? Red Diaper baby type. Can sing the “Internationale,” but not the SSB.

Pull the old Kagan FBI Files.

Look’em up in the VENONA files. I hope every Republican Senator does.

You don’t have to have very many brain cells to know that Elena Kagan is a Pluto-bound abortion-loving socialist. The thought of that grinning overfed New York dyke on our Supreme Court for the next 30-40 years makes me weep for my country.

Her heroes: Abner Mikva, Thurgood Marshall, Cass Sunstein (who believes the Constitution requires taxpayers to fund abortion and has proposed abolishing marriage - the pure Communist line since 1917) and Aharon Barak Israeli Supreme Court justice Aharon Barak (who has been called Israel’s “Big Brother”)

“In unity lies their only hope.” Though Kagan noted that it would be “absurd to overestimate” the Socialist Party in the U.S., she also said it had grown from 10,000 members in 1902 to 109,000 in 1919, and had built “a party press that included over 300 publications with an aggregate circulation of approximately 2 million.”

That won't even come close to the numbers just in DC today.

How much would it cost us if we threw in all of Capitol Hill as a bonus?

I should think she only rates Captain Morgan Parrot Rum. Vodka is far too refined, even if you adulterate it. :)

She is so stupid. Since Socialist all start out agreeing that a Socialist is bound to do good, when they collectively achieve dictatorial power they fall out. Each say “My way”. no “this way”, “no another way” and they end up at each others throats. Innevitable.

Is Prof. Wilentz, Kagan's thesis advisor, also a red-diaper baby? I know his father and uncle owned a rather famous Greenwich Village bookstore for many years.

I shudder when i think of the networks that exist and have existed for so many years placing their own here and there to further the "cause."

Seems ill conceived.

The Socialist Party declined because FDR and the Democrats pushed them aside.

No amount of party unity and internal cohesion could have prevented that.

It's also curious that a lot of the thesis deals with Socialist vs Communist feuding and with the dissatisfaction of radicals with reformism.

Did Kagan think a more radical program and closer cooperation with the CPUSA would have served the SP better?

I was referring to sending Kagan to Russia...but she's welcome to take Nanzi along if she would like.
