Hartford Courant ^ | 5/18/10 | Hartford Courant

Courant.com will live stream a 2 p.m. press conference by Richard Blumenthal to address questions about his military record during the Vietnam War.

Republican candidate Rob Simmons, who is a Vietnam veteran, said that Blumenthal owes the public an explanation.

"As someone who served, I respect Dick for wearing the uniform, but I am deeply troubled by allegations that he has misrepresented his service," Simmons said in a statement. "Too many have sacrificed too much to have their valor stolen in this way. I hope Mr. Blumenthal steps forward and forthrightly addresses the questions that have arisen about this matter."

Maybe Blumenthal will assert that distributing Toys for Tots in Anacostia might be comparable to a war zone, like Viet Nam.

The fact that he is caught on video ought to cook his goose.

He was very blatant about "when I served in Viet Nam".

In the military, lying about your service, deployment, rank, or medals, is the worst thing you can ever do.

It is a big sin and, in the eyes of fellow servicemen, makes you a POS.

Wonder if he will say he’s determined to stay in race, then
“suspend his campaign” when the polls nosedive?

Many of us served in the Vietnam ERA. Note: ERA. I am always careful with that explaination.

from Wikipedia:

—In an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Blumenthal said that he had never accepted PAC money. Blumenthal accepted over $220,000 in PAC money for the first fiscal quarter of 2010, according to his FEC report. When challenged on the discrepancy, his campaign released a statement explaining that he was referring only to previous campaigns

—On May 17, 2010, the New York Times published an article stating that Blumenthal “never served in Vietnam, despite statements to the contrary. The Times has found that he obtained at least five military deferments from 1965 to 1970 and took repeated steps that enabled him to avoid going to war.” The Times also published a March 2, 2008, video in which he states that “I served in Vietnam”

—In 2007, Hans Bader, Counsel for Special Projects of the Competitive Enterprise Institute (a Libertarian think-tank) ranked Blumenthal as “the nation’s worst state attorney general”...Former Congressman Rob Simmons, one of Blumenthal’s Republican contenders for Senator of Connecticut, circulated the document on his campaign website, charging Blumenthal with “supporting meritless, politically-driven lawsuits.”

Blumenthal's Claims About Having Served In Vietnam Being Challenged

Being challenged???? I think they've gone further than that and proven that Blumenthal never came close to going to Vietnam

All politicians are liars hence this mans misstatements are not suprising. However, never forget that the modern democrat supports to his dying breath: vice in all its forms, sedition, espionage, sabotage, treason, any form of respect for one’s nation, baby killing and lastly violent expressions of hatred for the Christian religion.

Do you mean Black Ops Kerry, who got 3 purple hearts (which he gave himself) and a medal of valor(which he created and gave himself and doesn't even exist)?

Who carries his Special Forces beret in his briefcase every day?

What a maroon, sheesh

If he was never in Vietnam that is an easy thing to find out. I saw him in a speech directly say something about “his time in Vietnam” so if he is trying to say he didn’t say that he was there then he is a liar.

Yes “Toys for Tots” can be a warzone! We one year as part of the local H.O.G. club helped with the give away. It’s bad when even the bikers are scared! LOL
