White House Presses Senate to Approve Russia Arms Pact

Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina said it was “absurd and dangerous” to think that the United States “should seek parity” with Russia given America’s unique role in the world.

“Russia doesn’t have 30 countries counting on it for protection,” Mr. DeMint said.

He took issue particularly with Russia’s statement that it would withdraw from the treaty if it ever decided that the American missile defense program challenged its own security. He also objected to the preamble of the treaty, which recognizes a relationship between offensive and defensive weapons.

“For us to even include in the treaty the idea that these things are interrelated is somewhat frightening to me,” Mr. DeMint said.

Mrs. Clinton countered that the preamble language would not constrain any American plans, and she noted that it mirrored statements made in the past that have not stopped development of missile defense. “The facts refute any concerns that you and others may have,” she told Mr. DeMint.

Senator Bob Corker, Republican of Tennessee, noted that Russia already has fewer launchers than the ceiling in the new treaty. “Did we really get anything in this treaty at all?” he asked. “We’re the ones actually making cuts, not them.” ....

Senator John F. Kerry, Democrat of Massachusetts and the committee chairman, noted that the nation’s military and intelligence agencies have all signaled their approval of the treaty. “The treaty’s pretty tight,” he said, “and the administration has done a pretty good job of including all the stakeholders.”

He noted that former Republican officials have already endorsed the treaty, and said he plans to bring former two former Republican secretaries of state, Henry Kissinger and James A. Baker III, to testify soon in favor of it, in hopes of building momentum to ratify the treaty this year.

Senator DeMint, you are one of the great ones; a great hope for our country in these days of darkness!

This has GOT to be put on hold. The GOP better get it's act together - seems like some RATS would stand with NO ACTION on this also. Even though boy king thinks he is royalty, we need to send a strong message that is not a fact (yet).

Nov 2010, unless boy king suspends the election.
