Specter Defeat Signals a Wave Against Incumbents

WASHINGTON — Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, who left the Republican Party a year ago in hopes of salvaging a 30-year career, was rejected on Tuesday by Democratic primary voters, with Representative Joe Sestak winning the party’s nomination on an anti-incumbent wave that is defining the midterm elections.

In Kentucky, Rand Paul, the most visible symbol of the Tea Party movement, easily won the Republican Senate primary and delivered a significant blow to the Republican establishment. His 24-point victory over Trey Grayson, who was supported by the most powerful Republican on Capitol Hill, Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, underscored the anti-Washington sentiment echoing across the country.

It's tempting to gloat tonight! Very, very. Tempting to talk about how the White House, the entire Pennsylvania Democrat Party establishment (from the governor on down) and the unions -- realizing Joe Sestak is too much of a gun-grabbing wingnut to win in November -- mobilized behind snarlin' Arlen Specter, yet the back-stabbing, double-crossing tawdry turncoat went down in flames anyway (even according to Scottish law!); or how neither Blanche Lincoln nor Bill Halter could win a Democrat primary out-right by clearing the 50 percent plus one threshold, therefore forcing the Arkansas Democrat Party into a costly and damaging runoff; or how Kentucky Republicans gave Rand Paul a landslide victory over a RINO who's too chicken to appear on Fox News; or how Viet Nam war hero Richard Blumenthal fabricated out of whole cloth his service in Viet Nam (claiming he accidentally misplaced a few words), thus putting the Connecticut Senate race in play -- but I'm not going to mention any of this because that would be gloating, and I never engage in that.

Even with the advantage of having a highly competitive state-wide Senate primary going and a 2-to-1 voter registration edge in a district so stupid it voted for John Murtha repeatedly, Democrat Mark Critz still had to run against ObamaCare, Crap & Trade, etc. to win in PA-12. As Sean Trende of RCP points out, "there are over sixty districts represented by Democrats with better Republican performances than PA-12. The Republicans' path to 218 seats doesn't necessarily run through this district . . . the [GOP's] path of least resistance . . . still runs through places like OH-01, NY-29, IL-11, and NM-02: historically Republican districts that voted out GOP incumbents as part of the anti-Republican wave" of '06 and '08. Nuff said.

Anyway, that's...
My Two Cents...

Now I want to see Charlie Crist retired. If we can exile him from Florida it would be even better!

So long Arlen you POS! Loyalty meant nothing to you, party meant nothing to you, principles meant nothing to you, and service to your constituents meant nothing to you. You are simply an opportunist who now has only one opportunity - writing a book which will be remaindered by Amazon after your family buys fifty copies.

A couple of things to consider that make Pennsylvania even more interesting in the fall. Independents did not vote in District 12 and Altmire in district 4 may very well be defeated based on the votes cast for Rothfus. This was a closed primary. The good news is Sphincter can not run as an independent under PA law. Maybe he will become a Yankees fan. ;-)

Unfortunately leftwing nutjob Joe Sestak is an incumbant as well -— just not for the seat he’s running for in November. Wait until independents and a respectable number of NRA Dems get wind of his record. ‘F’ NRA. ‘F’ on *all* of the Bailouts, ‘F’ to ethnic RC’s on abortion. Oh yes, Joe Sestak is very much the congressional Washington insider, and he is in for a rough ride indeed.

Since Crist cannot lose in his primary, does it mean you cannot die a happy man?

We need to launch and Spector independent bid. This would put Toomey in the Senate.

You are 1/3rd of the way there.

Crist bailed on the party because he was getting zotzed by Rubio by more than 30 points. Now Charlie has gone NPA (No Party Affiliation), and after a bounce after the announcement (aided by Marco’s initial out of context comment on the Arizona law), Marco is now ahead by 8 in the latest Rasmussen poll. That is a 12 point change in just a couple of weeks. The Duval REC held another straw poll Monday night and Marco won by an estimated 90% or better.

Reid is as good as gone so the only cliffhanger right now is McCain and JD is has been on a steady rise from more than 20 points down. The last Rasmussen poll on this race came out before the Arizona law became big news. I am looking forward to the next one.

It didn't take long for the Dem's to plant a knife in Specter's back. A Dem adviser was on Fox saying that the party got what they wanted out of Specter, a filibuster proof majority for most of last year and the vote to pass healthcare. He said most in the democrat leadership didn't like or trust Specter anyway and they were glad to have a "real" democrat nominee, and that Obama should give Specter some cushy diplomatic post somewhere so he will just shut up and go away quietly.

Ouch! Sure a lot of it is spin to portray the big loss of the Obama candidate as really a victory. But still, you would think they would be a little bit nicer to someone who was supposedly on of their own just a couple hours after the end of a 30 year political career. They basically said they used Specter and threw him away like an old dishrag and are proud of that fact.
