Blumenthal defends service record

Supposedly Blumenthal “remembered” being spit on when he returned from Vietnam. While he might be able to play word games with the difference between serving “in” and “during” Vietnam. there’s no way even Blumenthal could come up with a lame excuse for misremembering something like that. It would be great if there was audio or video out there somewhere of that remark.

There is, I saw it yesterday on FOX, but you won't see it anywhere else.

Isn't he (or wasn't he until recently?) a member of the VFW.Now what part of “foreign”...

Where did he get the service records to show the VFW that he was indeed in Vietnam ???

It's a requirement for membership.

I never got within 6,000 miles of Vietnam while serving in the Armed Forces.
That's okay, you can still become a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, who will accept any veteran who served in any duty location between 1964 and 1975.
That's a scam and as far as I'm concerned, it's a policy that tolerates and contributes to stolen valor.

Blumenthal served six months in the Marines training at Parris Island, S.C., and six years in the Marine Reserve, none of it overseas. He joined a unit in Washington that conducted exercises and focused on local projects, such as organizing a Toys for Tots drive, the Times reported. I “freeped” the press conference yesteray. (is it a freep if it’s just 1 person?) I did get some coverage...including a little clip on local FOX 61. I watched the press conf then headed to the car to grab my sign and stood there, all alone, so anyone leaving would HAVE to see me! it was fun!! too bad it was such short notice. the Globe mentioned me as well. sign said

Race, have you read Stolen Valor by BG Burkett? A very good book. I read it about 10 years ago. Blumie should of read it instead of drawing up a 1,000 different law suits to chase all business out of CT.

Any few friends/co-workers that have mentioned they did a hitch
in the USA military during the 1960s-1970s always IMMEDIATELY say
1. I served but didn’t get sent to Vietnam
OR
2. I went to Vietnam, but served in the rear doing supply/administrative work
OR
3. I served but would rather not talk about it, please (tip that they
likely got out into the [****] combat).

I think you will find that true of honorable veterans, of which most are IMO.

I have a good friend (you know him Race and nutmeg) that served on a destroyer during the Viet Nam era.

Although his ship was deployed to the waters offshore of Viet Nam, he is very clear to anyone he is discussing it with to make the point that he did not serve in Viet Nam and has the greatest respect and admiration for those that did.
