Following a New York Times report that he exaggerated his military record, Democratic Senate hopeful Richard Blumenthal has lost ground in match-ups against all his potential Republican challengers in Connecticut. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Connecticut finds Blumenthal with just a three-point advantage over Linda McMahon, 48% to 45%. Two weeks ago, he led the former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment by 13 percentage points. The New York Times story broke late Monday; the survey was taken Tuesday evening.

How DARE you impune his military service record by reporting this news just because he’s a liar!!!
Yuck. I can’t stand McMahon. Where is Simmons in his race aginst her?
I don’t know much about Linda McMahon, but she seems to be a good candidate. I think a woman would do better than a male opponent against Blumenthal.
It was McMahon’s campaign that stumbled onto the damning video of Blumenthal pretending to be a Vietnam veteran. She fed it to the New York Times, telling them to either print the scoop, or she would send it elsewhere.
That is what is known as good , hardball politics. Well-timed, right before the Conn. Democratic Convention.
What do people think of McMahon? Is she the real deal?
I would love to see this guy go down, however I’m not sure I trust a poll put out immediately after this news story. It will be more important to see what this story does a week from now. See the trendline. Besides, he might lose ground to his Democratic challengers as well and lose the primary.
Yes. It's terrible.
Distorting an otherwise spotless record of military service by drawing attention to a single peccadillo. Shameful.
That's politics in today's America, though.
Blumenthal DID serve in the Marines during the VietNam era.
He served as an attorney and as such was exposed to back sprains while sitting in his leather chair and also vicious paper cuts as he thumbed through various legal briefs.
Enough it enough. Give the man a break!
“What do people think of McMahon? Is she the real deal?”
Yes, she’s committed to spending up to $50 million of her own money on this race.
I assume that CT is used to having a liar in that seat anyway.
Next poll will be much worse for him.
This poll was done Tuesday night, before most people had actually heard about the story, and before his ridiculous weaselly excuses in his press conference yesterday. Instead of facing his shortcomings like a man, he came up with weaselly words like “I misspoke”, and tried to blame it all on a dreaded right wing conspiracy that was trying to take him down, forgetting to mention that it was the far left New York Times that broke the story.
Let’s hope Blumenthal drops like a brick.
Maybe if Blumy drops too far, Chris Dodd will decide to un-retire and start his campaign up again. I don’t want to get my hopes up too much because if it gets too bad, Blumy will drop out of the race and the next Rat in line will take his place. Conneticut is a lefty state so as long as the next Rat in line does not have anything wrong personally, he/she will probably beat out the pubbie for that Senate seat.
