Anchors aren't known for admitting their shortcomings but Campbell Brown is accepting defeat.
The eponymous host of CNN's "Campbell Brown" has stepped down from the "toughest timeslot in cable news" due to low ratings.
"Simply put, the ratings for my program are not where I would like them to be," Brown said in a statement released Tuesday. "It is largely for this reason that I am stepping down as anchor of CNNs 'Campbell Brown. "
Brown added that she had been ruminating over the move "for some time" and that she felt the urge to reveal the truth behind her departure.
"I have never had much tolerance for others spin, so I cant imagine trying to stomach my own," she said. "The simple fact is that not enough people want to watch my program, and I owe it to myself and to CNN to get out of the way so that CNN can try something else."
Brown's news program aired at 8 p.m. on CNN opposite Fox's "The O'Reilly Factor," HLN's "Nancy Grace" and MSNBC's "Countdown with Keith Olbermann. While Brown praised the "incredible talents" of her 8 p.m. cable news competitors, she also revealed she didn't feel she was in the same league as these pundits.

Are they gonna change the name of the show?
I dunno, O'Reilly doesn't seem to find it all that tough to score fantastic ratings, every night, in that time slot.
Of course. The 3 people watching it might get confused.
Ex-cheerleader Campbell Brown, described by the NY Times as a tattooed ex-party girl and ski bum, tries to make herself out to be a martyr to “hard news” and “old fashioned...journalism”.
I’m proud that I had no idea if this was a man or woman. CNN is only for massive disaster news programming. They still manage to pull that off #1 in my book.
They’re gonna change Campbell Brown’s name to “The Girl from Epoynma”.
(I have to confess, I’ve been looking for a way to use that line for about 25 years.)
Hmmmmm.....something new....like "fair and balanced"???
Oh wait....that's already working....
Hmmmmmm.....how about telling the truth in an objective way without a bias toward liberalism/progressivism?
Maybe she can become a "paid contributor" to FOX...she'd be a damn site better then the defensive, non-sensical, whinning Juan Williams!
One who is referred to as eponymous is someone who gives his or her name to something, e.g. Julian, the eponymous owner of the famous restaurant Julian's Castle. Something eponymous is named after a particular person, e.g. Julian's eponymous restaurant.
While Brown praised the "incredible talents" of her 8 p.m. cable news competitors, she also revealed she didn't feel she was in the same league as these pundits.
If you look just below her right ear, you'll see the Schrader valve.
Glad you got a chance to use it. You probably won’t have another opportunity for another quarter century.
I WILL MAKE A BET!!!!! Watch for CNN to find a conservative to put in the slot....

When you realize you are lower than olbergoober, it’s time to stop pretending you are a “news person”. Certainly there must be a Starbucks somewhere looking for help.
Was this God’s will too? LOL.
That's why she thinks its the toughest time slot. She has to go up against O’Reilley.
The rumor circulating on many of the media sites is that the LuvGov, Elliot Spitzer is the lead contender to replace her.
So much for fair an balanced, although CNN should nicely tie up the hooker and corrupt politician demographics.
Yes, they are. It will now be the Anonymous CNN News Show.............
I think Campbell would do a good job as a talking head guest on these shows, such as BOR. She would be better to listen to (add more value) than most of the liberals BOR and Hannity have on.
Her problem was not her on-air talents, which I think are considerable. It was purely a content issue. No one really wants to listen to that drivel nonstop, either on the tube or on the radio. However, as far as being the liberal guest on various shows, Campbell would be great.
I wonder what took them so long? I try to watch her sometimes but she is a liar, so I just can’t.
Well at least she was honest about this bit of self centered news. ;-)
“...so that CNN can try something new.”
Like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic...
I just posted basically the exact same thing. Except I do like Juan Williams. He gets frustrating to listen to sometimes, and sometimes I do have to hit the mute button because I get embarrassed for him when he slips into stupid mode. But overall he is a good (though often wrong) analyst who adds value to the debate.
Well....the hooker and corrupt politician (I might also add "politicians who "mis-speak" (not lie)) group is certainly expanding.....maybe there is a market for them after all.
Certainly Juan Williams could be the poster boy for them (gads....I hate that individual).
Who the hell would want an itty bitty banana inked onto her ankle??
That’s a brain worm, it’s under the skin, I give her two days tops ...
What did she give her name to except this?
BTW, her real name is Alma Dale Campbell Brown.
“Sometimes a banana is just a banana...”
Maybe it was supposed to be a crescent.
Well anyway, maybe now she’ll have time for Dancing With the “Stars”, or has she already tried that?
Arlen Specter IS looking for work this morning.
bye, bye cambill.
I seem to remember being absolutely appalled when the name of her show changed into something like that a few years ago.
I could never turn the channel to CNN during that timeslot .... I mean, who would intentionally title a show in such a preposterous manner?
Campbell, please take your fake, pretentious lisp home and send your husband in to do your show. Thanks.
Why CNN would hire someone with a lisp in the first place is beyond me
You gotta have some kind of ink exposed. I wouldn’t be surprised if she also has a tramp stamp.
Just find another host and dub them "Campbell Brown." Voila.
Eliot Spitzer might get an hour long evening show on CNN???
I'd prefer if they hire a Spitzer that it be Hulda...
ELIOT on CNN?????
Plus, her Dad James H. Brown is a longtime and very prominent Dem politician.
Who has been indicted for malfeasance in office and has served jail time. He IS a Democrat, after all....
Ok, I admmit I had to look up eponymous.
But they use the word twice in different contexts, one of which - I think - must be wrong.
Either the show is named after here, or she’s named after the show. :)
See what I mean?
Both the Washington Examiner and the HuffPo (and some others) have stories quoting "unnamed" sources, FWIW.
that’s funny...he certainly has all the bases covered....
So if she breast-feeds her child, we can refer to her as 'Alma Mater" (Latin: "nourishing mother").
I’d rather watch Campbell Brown than Keith Olbermann.
Olbermann bores you with endless: blame Bush, blame Republican, Palin is stupid, blah, blah, blah.
At least Campbell was “man enough” to admit her ratings were low and leave gracefully.
Does anyone actually watch Olbermann, I view it once or twice a week during commercials on O’Reilly, more for comic relief than the nothingness that he usually talks about.
SoftBall with Chris is another MSNBC flop.
Campbell’s ratings were 20% higher than Matthew.
I wonder when Chris will man up and step down?
I can't look at him the few times I've seen him these past few years without wondering what brand of black socks he's currently wearing.
I'd have presumed that Ashley Dupre would get her own reality show eons before he ever would.
Wonders never cease.....
Schee shed scheed schtay in newschs.
