What Richard Blumenthal has been doing through much of his public career is to walk on the backs of those who really did serve in Vietnam and falsely build affinity with those who serve today.
A hero is a person who puts him or herself at risk for the benefit of others. That certainly characterizes anyone who donned a uniform and went to war, voluntarily put themselves in harms way in our armed forces and those who serve or served far from home in difficult or dangerous circumstances. Thats an apt description of those with whom I served in Vietnam. Thats not Richard Blumenthal, the Attorney General of Connecticut, who wants to be his states next United States Senator. Hes a phony.
According to The New York Times, the Associated Press and just about every other news outlet on the planet, Mr. Blumenthal has made a habit of portraying himself as a veteran of the Vietnam War. He is quoted as having told a Connecticut veterans group in March of 2008, We have learned something important since the days I served in Vietnam
He has also emotionally recalled being spat on and we couldnt wear our uniforms when we returned from Vietnam. On other occasions he has reflected on
the taunts, the insults, sometimes physical abuse he suffered after coming back from Vietnam. At a 2003 rally in Bridgeport, Conn. to support U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan he said, When we returned, we saw nothing like this
Unfortunately for Mr. Blumenthal, we now know he never served in Vietnam. He has known it all along.

Ok where now is US Sen Webb of VA...crickets typical GUTLESS Dem BASTARD!
He should be charged under the “Stolen Valor” law!
Particularly after he had a chance to come clean and chose to continue to lie, as in how he was suddenly inspired to join the reserves but could have continued with his deferment.
"Perhaps Democrats just have a higher tolerance for deceit."
Yes, deceit is their greatest tool--the truth is not in them.
He should have been satisfied with saying that he fulfilled his military obligation. Deferments notwithstanding, he was not a draft dodger. I got out of the Army in 1963, technically before the start of the Vietnam era. Although we had Special Forces “advisors” in ‘Nam at that time, I always make it clear I was in and out before Vietnam and never left CA.
My father-in-law served in the Army from 1938 until 1961. He never deployed during WWII and was always careful to say that he was not a WWII veteran. On the other hand, he was an advisor to the Korean Army in 1950 and would tell anyone in a heatbeat what it was like being there at that time and had the scars to show for it. He was most assuredly a part of the “Greatest Generation” as he never took credit for something he did not do, but was proud of what he did do.
And what ever happened to the Democrat/MSM view that anyone who got a deferment or joined the Reserves during Vietnam was a "draft dodger"???
Yes, anyone ever in the military, including and especially Blumenthal, knows the distinction and the overwhelming majority don’t make the repeated slip of the tongue he has admittedly made. In my book he’s a liar!
It would be interesting to know how many Democrat veterans of the Vietnam War are still with Blumenthal. For many of these veterans, the “D” trumps the “V” for Vietnam.
Good point on the “draft dodger” and see my post #10.
But he was available to be sent had the Army seen fit.
My kid was also available to be sent to Iraq or A’Stan but never got the call.
There is a lot to say for being in uniform, and able and willing to go in harms way.
In the wake of the top-of-the-fold New York Times article calling out Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal for exaggerating his military record, his Republican opponents have made major gains since the last poll taken just two weeks ago.
He will continue to drop in the polls and hopefully lose. But the libs don't care how many lies he tells. He will support 0bama and that is all they care about.

I'm sorry this guy was so insecure he had to borrow someone else’s honor to get elected, but it's not like he was the first. He's the son of WWII aged parents and all of them who fought were so careful to keep their precious kids out of Viet Nam (mostly because McArthur told them to NEVER EVER get involved in the war in Southeast Asia), so they got them away from the battle zone any way they could. This is unfortunate. He should have just been honest that when he finished school, it was all over but the spitting and mistreatment — something America should be very ashamed of.
Technically I was enlisted in the Reserves (in ROTC) during the last years of Vietnam and I have never, ever said I am a Vietnam vet.
There was a UT Republican after World War II who lied about his war record and was booted out of Congress. I forget the details, but I believe his name was “Stringfellow”.
I love the way a deliberate, outright, offensive, often repeated, lie by a RAT is called a “misstatement”.
