AP article so excerpted. First of two executions in two days here in Mississippi. This guy had been on death row for more than a decade. The guy getting the needle tomorrow, Gerald James Holland, has been there for 26 years.

I heard on the radio on the drive home this afternoon that it costs $40,000-50,000 a year to keep these people on death row. It's ridiculous. We really need an express lane.

I knew someone else would! :)

A book? I don't know if he's writing a mere book. It's more like a hagiography, I'm sure.

Perhaps. Sorry to derail your thread!

I’m off to bed now, but I do agree...they need to put them to death sooner!

I’m embarrassed to say that my first reaction was, “that seems extreme, but oh well” but then I instantly realized that it had to be someone else.

Good evening Joe. I’m a born and bred West Texas boy. I would surely love to get back there — even if it’s just to be buried.

Woodward is a flaming liberal propagandist.

But isn’t that punishment a bit extreme, even for being a liberal?

Well sure, lots of us did — but were you sad like me when you found out it was a DIFFERENT Woodward? :-)

Which is why the death sentence used to be meted out for just about everything in Dickens’ Emgland. The state couldn’t afford to keep all those folks in jail. Prison was mostly for politicals whom it was deemed expedient to keep alive or for rich men whose families could pay for their keep.

"Woodward, 62, was convicted in Perry County in the 1986 rape and slaying of volunteer Youth Court worker Rhonda Crane, 24."

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Burn in Hell, scumbag.

I remember the late (and very funny) comedian Robin Harris (of Bebe's Kids fame) giving his take on the death penalty...

"Step on up! Two at a time! Gotta go, gotta go!!!"

Meanwhile in Washington County, East Tennessee, a man in jail since 2002 and alleged to have committed two murders and decapitating the victims heads will go on trial next week and is pleading for a delay.

I thought you meant Bob Woodward. He has some negative information on Ozero in his new book. It would be typical if Rahm executed him.
