Scott Brown switches vote to advance financial regulation overhaul
Boston Globe ^

Posted on 05/20/2010 1:13:38 PM PDT by AlanD

Senator Scott Brown switched a key vote from yesterday and joined 57 Democrats and two Republicans this afternoon in advancing a massive financial regulation overhaul.

The Massachusetts Republican said that over the last 24 hours he received assurances – from the chief negotiators in the House and Senate, Senator Christopher J. Dodd, and Representative Barney Frank -- that changes he was seeking would be addressed. Those assurances came during a phone call with Frank last night, while the Newton Democrat was working out in the House members gym. Brown was further convinced during a 40-mile bike ride he went on this morning with Senator John Kerry.

“We recognize that there’s going to be some fixes here, more than likely, and the conference committee,” Brown said after voting. “I’m satisfied that all of our efforts – Senator Kerry and my efforts – will benefit and protect jobs in Massachusetts.”

“I spoke at length over a 40 mile bike-ride with Senator Kerry about it,” Brown added. “He’s a very good athlete.”

Did any of you fools seriously expect Scott Brown to be a conservative. He comes from Mass for G*D’s sake! Get a grip. There are NO conservatives left in the ENTIRE N/E “United” States.

I guess it’s time to change my tagline. If he was worried about this vote helping his reelection in ‘12 he has chosen poorly.

I like Scott Brown as a personality and a candidate. He is not Chris Christie, if that is what you were hoping for.

Would not be surprised if he becomes a VP sometime . .

Haley Barbour/Scott Brown for example.

Or even Michelle Bachmann/Scott Brown.

Why the heck would a Conservative tap a Liberal on all but one issue as a running mate?

'“He’s a very good athlete.”"

What in the world does that have to do with the merits (or lack thereof) of the legislation?

Could you see Winston Churchill commenting on the athletic prowess of one of his political foes?

Can't we find some serious people for these serious times?

Kind of like that idiot Stupak who gave away his vote on ObamaCare in exchange for a promise to sign an executive order. Now that ObaMao has kept that promise, he can sign another executive order to rescind it . . . after the election.

Still, with the enemedia running 24/7 propoganda about Republicans refusing to regulate Wall Street and the GOP being too stupid to run ads on who Wall Steet donates to and who got us in this mess, I can see where Scottie feels he's between a rock and a hard place.

That's why I cheer the probable election of a guy like Rand Paul. He and his Dad may be isolationist dopes when it comes to foreign policy, but they at least have the guts to take on Wall Street and the international banksters.

From my reading of the mood, this country is fed-up with the no-win war in Afghanistan and will need another 9-11 type event to wake them from their slumber, so it is better to at least channel that isolationist sentiment into getting our borders secured and stop with the bankster bail-outs for now!

They are ALL politicians, and I use that term as a pejorative.

They are using this tactic over and over again to wear us down. Making us think these communists bills are going to die then allowing a floor vote and ramming it through.

They all want us to give up and let them take over so they will no longer have to campaign and then can just be our masters.

This crap has to end.

Hard to watch birth of a RINO.

No grass under our feet. How do we oust him and when. These politicians have to know we will not tolerate RHINOS. If they sneak in, we have to weed them out.

One thing you can say about Scott Brown. He really likes making deals with the devil. We do need financial reform. We need to go back to Glass-Steagall. There is a lot of garbage in this bill. Including crimes against the American people that are not related to reforming the markets, but are intended to spy on, intimidate, and control Americans.

Why the heck would a Conservative tap a Liberal on all but one issue as a running mate?

Almost as inane as the chatter about Lieberman as a running mate for McCain in '08.

No, that would be insane - 2 liberals on the Republican ticket.

A lot of people on here were giddy about Scott Brown, saying how great it would be if he ran for President right after his election.

This is why it's imperative to wait for any newly elected politician to get a track record before suggesting he or she be advanced to a higher position. I thought Newt might make a good pesidential candidate but wasn't going seriously to support him until he made a track record as House Speaker. Now that he's made that track record, thre's no way I'd support him for President.
