The Senate approved new far-reaching financial rules on Thursday aimed at preventing the risky behavior and regulatory failures that brought the economy to the brink of collapse two years ago and cost millions of Americans their jobs and savings.
The bill passed by a vote of 59 to 39, with four Republicans joining a majority of Democrats in supporting it.
The 1,500-page measure, shepherded through the Senate by Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.), chairman of the banking committee, seeks to reshape both Washington and Wall Street.
They successfully courted Republican Sens. Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins, both of Maine, in part by including in the final bill provisions that each wanted. Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) also backed the bill. Equally critical was the last-minute push to win over Scott Brown (R), the Senate's newest member.

Think about voters who can't or won't pay their mortgages, who are getting help from F&F. Do you think they would vote for anyone who would reform F&F? Dems want to keep those votes by continuing to buy them with money we don't have. F&F is just one of their schemes.
That’s just because they are playing for the other team. It’s like a drunk lesbian slut trying to be picked up by a man on spring break.
I agree with you. What is is going to take anymore? I always wondered why the Jews didn’t fight back and just dug their own graves to make it easy for the Nazis. Now I see the same thing happening here and now. All the bellyaching and noone doing anything about it. And where are our menfolk? We need new founding fathers who will risk life and limb for their families and all I see around me is 30+ somethings out trying to make as much money as they can and building 4,000 square foot houses that they won’t be able to heat in two years.
Yes my sentiments exactly. To be fair we do have some true patriots and God be with them as they fight the good fight each day in that nest of snakes (Jim Demint,Michele Bachmann, and some others but they are overwhelmed but still manage to stay in there fighting) However, like you I’m wondering where our ‘menfolk’ are. I did read something intriguing late last nite which I will freepmail to you later.
One thing going for us Wl, we have the clarity of history. The silence may be deafening to us but I don’t believe for one second that there aren’t serious discussions being held somewhere (at least that is what I pray).
5 for months of this BS and this country will get to the point of no return...Why can’t these morons simply take over some other country... freaking locusts!
Of course it will depend on the final Act, but credit may be just as easy to get....from a foreign bank. Congress is simply exporting our jobs, as it usually does. Congress is Public Enemy No. 1 to American jobs. No more clueless examples of economic illiterates exist than Dodd and Frank.
looks like we need another bumper sticker...see thanks masshole for ideas.
I hated McCain with a passion and still voted for him. So cant blame me for his.
We now reside in the
(United Socialist States of America)
never thought I would see it in my time, cold war ended, thousands die fighting communist aggression in vietnam and korea and then radical Islam tries to topple the US economy and a kenyan usurper waltzes right in and hands it over...all to the tune of liberal media bias while the republican party fiddledix around trying to be centrist and reaching across the isle like a bunch of silver spoon well fed "I got mine" fruitcakes
I brought up here on FR that as a vote against Mccain is a vote for Obama and got all beat up and accused of being a troll....thanks a lot all you conservative idiots on FR who voted for Obama to spite McCain...idiots ! !
I have a feeling things are going to get real, real ugly , the Federal Reserve will be in charge and the FED wants to dismantle the USA financial system and siphon off the spoils. Leftists will control 100% who gets capital to do what
hate to be a negative doomsayer but I think it's "GAME OVER"
Gold and ammunition will make for a lumpy, hard mattress
Jeez, how many of you blind freepers can’t see that Brown is a step up form Kennedy and Kerry? Do you really think Brown will do the damage that Kennedy did? Please grow a brain. A leftist RINO blocking a Massachusetts Senate seat from a rapid communist is a good thing. Think!
