A newly-formed political group in Tucson plans to debut a provocative new advertisement tonight to directly link U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
The animated advertisement debuting tonight portrays Giffords as a marionette puppet with Pelosi pulling her strings. It is set to air during the 10 p.m. newscasts on three local network stations, and for a week on morning and evening local news broadcasts.
Democrats say the ad is more of the same old tricks from conservatives.
The Giffords team says it wont comment on allegations or advertisements it hasnt yet seen, but the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said its seen this tact before.
This is just another example of Republicans pulling out their tired, old playbook when time and again it fails to work. In fact, we saw it fail again just this week in the special election in Pennsylvanias 12th district when a message of creating jobs locally is what won the day, not a focus on national figures, said Andy Stone, western region DCCC spokesman.
Several local business owners formed the Conservatives for Congress Committee a few weeks ago, said Steve Christy, one of the members and a former Tucson car dealership owner.
The group says it is not affiliated with a political party, but wants to get progressive or liberal lawmakers out of office. It is not endorsing any of Giffords four Republican opponents.
Its motivation is the current political climate and what we would term the overreaching agenda of the Democrats in Congress and the White House that really seemed to be encroaching on all facets of society of our personal and professional lives, Christy said.
The $10,000 ad was produced locally by Moret and Associates Advertising with animation work by Abbott Media Productions, said Rich Moret.
Conservatives for Congress may get into other races, as well.
It depends on how things progress with this one. Certainly if theres other opportunities with other camps in Southern Arizona that have candidates running that exhibit the far-reaching agenda of Democratic national politics, were certainly looking at becoming involved in those right now, Christy said.
He and Moret said the committee is considering making U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva its next target.
Is the liberal Giffords vulnerable in this district?
Good. Time to play dirty against the rats. They never hesitate, why should we.
She’s not liked but has oodles of cash.
Isn’t a veteran with solid credentials running against her or is he in a contested primary in August?
I really would love to see this district go back to the GOP.
Jesse Kelly (StaffSgt. USMC,no longer active), State Rep Patton (Ltc AZANG) are two of the 4 that I remember
She’s on the list of competitive House races at keyhouseraces.com.
Experts rate the election Leans D-for now.
Hubby calls our Rep. John Yarmuth “Nancy Boy”. Gets a lot of laughs with it.
I can promise you the Conservatives for Congress Committee will be getting into other races. I am member and we can use all the help we can get. We need more exposure and more contributions. We must get rid of politicians who continue to engage in reckless spending and failed socialist policies.
Take a look at Giffords attempt to silence us. http://ConservativesForCongressCommittee.org/News.aspx
