Obama administration should heed Mexico's call to crack down on guns
Washington Post ^ | May 21, 2010

MEXICAN PRESIDENT Felipe Calderón has shown courage in leading his government to take on the violent drug gangs that have claimed thousands of Mexican lives. On Thursday, he displayed a different kind of fortitude: standing before a joint meeting of Congress and asking for a revival of the U.S. assault weapons ban. The Obama administration, which has been largely absent in the fight against the illegal gun trade, should have such backbone.

Mr. Calderón, who has been in Washington for a state visit, made a powerful case. Over the past three years, Mexican authorities have seized some 75,000 weapons used in crimes; more than 80 percent of those they were able to trace came from the United States. Mr. Calderón argued that the surge in violent, cartel-related crimes coincided with the 2004 repeal of the U.S. assault weapons ban.

And it is a FELONY every time they do it.

Look up USC Title 18. Section 241 and 242.

If two or more persons conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or because of his having so exercised the same;...

They shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, they shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.

Every time they start talking about restricting our BoR Protected Rights, we need to find a DA and get Federal felony charges filed.

Seriously.

I see some fancy footwork, by OBAMA!

Obama, of course, is an idiot who has learned nothing about the effects of gun bans. Look at Chicago!

However, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid BOTH told Obama to back off of his anti-gun agenda -— early on.

I think Obama is using the border issue to force the hands of those in his own Democrat Party.

Which -— does kind of help Republicans, in November, does it not?

Thanks for an excellent educational post.

But the bottom line is that if the President of Mexico does not like what is happening on the border, all he has to do is close it from his side.

I would have told him to close the border or close his mouth.

Spot on! Only about 11% of the guns going into Mexico come from the United States. The rest come from China, and other Central and South American countries. And from Mexico itself from defectors from their own army who kept their weapon. Our State Department knows the truth, but you won't here it out of Washington.

So...now it takes "courage" to protect a country and it's citizens?

Have daily hangings for these bastards and this crap would stop.

I disagree. Obama know exactly what the effect of gun bans are. They disarm and render helpless the law abiding members of the populace. This is EXACTLY the objective. He doesn't care about crooks. What all tyrants fear is the general populace and people like Timothy McVeigh reating to tyranny in a violent way and thus threatening their power.

Every law that Kongress passes and 0 signs into law is backed ultimately by the death penalty. What politicians hate and fear is that same possibility for themselves. The crooks in our society are not a challenge to the government's power. All they want is to rob and kill a few of us and let the government do the same. If you can effectively defend yourself against unorganized thieves and murders, then you might also be able to defend yourself against the government's organized thugs. This is what they fear.

Strictly, we only need 218 Republican congresspeople and 61 Senators, though more would be better, especially given that among the Senators will be Snowe, Collins and Brown. Just need to be able to overturn the inevitable vetos from the Sleaze House.

That is such utter bullsh!t. These cartels and gangs like MS-13 have been chopping people up with machetes and shooting each other with old revolvers long before the AR-15 was invented. Any uptick in their activities centers around two things; money and power from illegal drugs. With the money and power come the ability to buy fully-automatic weapons, grenades and even RPGs from third-world sources. They would like the sheeple to believe that all those grenades and machine guns came from US gun shows. Riiight.

Calderón go home! Deal with the mess you have created.

If I heard Calderón correctly during his speech before congress, he didn’t even using the carefully-worded and deceptive version, he just flat-out lied and said that 80% of guns used in drug crimes were from America. Of course NO ONE calls him on it. Instead, they print a technically correct but extremely deceptive repeat of Calderón’s lie. Journalism is dead, but I think we all knew that.

Be careful of what you wish for. Who would have thought our government could take away so much of our liberty, in such a short time, with most caring less.

We just need to crack some heads. Our government gets more and more spineless everyday. It only shows strength when it comes to taxing the public and restricting free commerce.

....so there is a flood of unwanted people coming over from Mexico and they’re not going to do anything about that, but they demand we disarm to stop guns from going to their nation?

You know, maybe if our border wasn’t porous there wouldn’t be a flood of guns going over the border.

Guess all those gun control laws in Mexico aren’t doing much...

— The Mexican Army. More than 150,000 soldiers deserted in the last six years, according to Mexican Congressman Robert Badillo. Many took their weapons with them, including the standard issue M-16 assault rifle made in Belgium.

That would probably be the FNC, not the M-16, except that the Mexicans formerly used the H&K G-3, and are switching over to a locally designed 5.56x45 rifle, the FX-05 Xiuhcoatl, based on the H&K G36.

The mexican goverment(drug cartel) does not like the fact that Americans might be able to resist mexican gangs(terriost) as they spread their influence across the border. It will be much easier if Americans are disarmed first. And obama is more than willing to help. I’am sure he will be rewarded by the mexican ‘goverment’. In my opinion every American citizen should be armed (m-16’s) to resist the mexican invasion on our southern border by armed terriost(mexican gangs)
