Pools can be dirty, toxic and full of many things that make kids and adults sick. Fecal matter is just the tip of the iceberg. Children with dirty diapers are adding to unsafe swimming pools. When 1 in 5 adults admit to urinating in swimming pools, how much urine must be in public swimming pools? Nitrogen from urine can actually eat chlorine. Sweat and suntan lotion can also damage chlorine in pools.

Just the thought of going to a public swimming pool of any kind makes me ill.

Um, urine is sterile by the way. These fear mongers are really something. Ive managed 3 large pools over the last 20 years and have had no (none) problems.

But.. The cleaner we live, the sicker we get. That’s been proven.

You know? We spend millions (maybe billions) on CDC ‘expertise’ and we get reports that say pool
water has pee in it and baby pools (gasp!) have
bits of fecal matter in them. Give me a friggin
break. These publicity hounds need to get a clue
about what their job is. They need to explain why
this whole damn swine flu pandemic turned out to be
bullshit (we know what it was - diversion to take the flak off Obama). They need to stop saying guns are a frickin
disease or that spousal abuse (their PC word for ‘wife beater’) are diseases. I’d sooner see these creeps taken out and stood in front of a firing squad and call it a
mild outbreak of ‘emerging executionary firearmitis’......

My parents remember frequent closures of public pools due to polio outbreaks before the Salk vaccine. Last time I’ve heard of this type of concern.

Even when I was a kid, my parents wouldn’t allow me to go to a public swimming pool. It should be obvious to everyone that they are dirty.

How in the world did we get to a point where its acceptable to put infants and toddlers into the pool with a “swim diaper”? Like thats going to keep the poop in. Somehow we morphed to where the right of your little darling to go into a public pool is more important than my right to not swim in crap-water. If its not the ocean, I stay dry.

Of course its fear mongering, can’t sell papers without it.

Any public pool should be checking chlorine levels regularly and keeping them in acceptable levels if not the pool is closed until it is, this is nonsense.

Is it nice to think about that some of that water you are swimming in is urine? Nope, but do you think fish don’t piss and crap in the lakes and streams and oceans you play in too?

Much ado about nothing, as usual.

I’ve had a pool for decades.

Chlorine is nothing less than a minor god.

Right now, there’s about six inches of algae-filled snowmelt in mine, so I’d say not. One of my weekend projects is to climb into that disgusting water and clean out the pool. I should probably call my doctor for antibiotics NOW.

I agree urine isn’t really a hazard, the article overstates the hazard.

The only exception is the talk about swim diapers, those things are serious biohazards that could get a lot of people sick at once. Also known as fecal tea bags. Sorry that was gross but I actually heard that term used

Um, urine is sterile by the way.

Um.....no. Your urine is sterile to you, but not to everyone else.

Oh for Pete’s sake - my friends and I went to public pools hundreds of times when we were growing up, and none of us got sick or died from it. It’s a safe bet pools were dirtier then than they are now.

Enough of this blasted nanny state crap.
